Honda has sold out of its track-ready Civic Mugen RR in Japan. Based on the new JDM Honda Civic Type R, all 300 copies of the Mugen Civic were spoken for in the first 10 minutes it was available, even though the car won’t be delivered until January. The Honda Civic Mugen RR stickers for Â¥4.7 million.
The Mugen RR furthers the Type R’s performance by adding more power and reducing its weight. Honda claims the car can lap Japan’s Tsukuba circuit in 1:06:38.
Honda has no current plans to sell the Civic Mugen RR in the United States.

4.7 million Yen is ~$40,500 at current exchange…even coming from a Honda fan, no Civic is worth that much. You’d be better of buying an SI and putting $20k of mods into it.

I don’t know I’m just not a fan of the current Civic I love imports especially Honda and Acura’s but I don’t like the 4 doors exterior styling and I’m not fond of the interior. I think the coupe looks great on the outside. I like that they tried something funky and new but Its just weird to me. Still cant deny the rock solid reliability and the resale
As far as this one its just for racing on the track and I don’t do that so I’m not interested and I think you can mod out the Si and you will get similar performance

It is identical car to the one we get plus the Mugen trimmings.
Guys, cars in Japan cost more, significantly more. As well as everywhere else in the world. There is equivalent of federal tax on all cars in the most of the world as for luxury items. If this beast to land on our shore it would in the range of 25-28 large including exclusivity factor.
Now the good news: the speed limit in Japan for the most part is 36 mph.

Autonut, the Mugen SI already lists for 30k here. There’s no way Honda would/could sell the Type-R here for less than 33k IMHO…it doesn’t b/c it knows they can’t sell it for that much, although I’m sure there would be a few Honda fanatics to snap up another limited run of 300 if they brought it here. And even at that price, buy an SI and put 13k of mods into it, LOL. I also realize in Japan/Europe cars are taxed based on engine displacement as well, but still…40k USD is too much for a Civic!

The proportions on the Civic just looks odd. Dont like the cab forward
A pillar. Still looks weird to me. Obviously, the coupe has the same problem.
For that money, make mine an EVO

You can buy pretty much any car in Japan which has a steering on the right hand side. Although, there not that many US manufacturers go through this exercise, all Australian cars are available, but not purchased.
European cars sell briskly, mostly status symbols.
A4, to get Civic (any Civic) to 85 mph you may need 70HP, max 85-90 if you will not shift above 4th gear during this exercise. The remaining 100 HP is mostly conversation piece. And when coast at 85 in 6th 50-60 ponies are more then sufficient. With speed limit of 70-75 and 10-14 miles of police “good will”(but not last days of the month) where can one use all those ponies? Please let me know, I would love to use mine.

It is the fastest Honda around Tsukuba circuit to date… with the exception of the NSX-R. And it is expensive… no denying that. But the Japanese tuning philosophy is so much different than that in America… and labor is expensive there. Most tuning houses hand build their performance parts, and for example, to increase a vehicles torsional rigidy, a lot of them would rather increase the number of spot welds on critical parts of the body, as opposed to just bolting on a simple chassis brace. And to save weight, they don’t just strip a car out either. That’s why a car like this can sell out in 10 minutes in Japan. To them, they’re getting what they pay for. Not to mention the fact that Mugen is like the Holy Grail of Honda over there.

If HONDA wants to make a Civic worth more than Civic money then they need to invest in finding a way to shove the drive train from an S2000 into their Civic Coupe. But to be blunt, $40K is way too much for a Civic… or most things Honda.

Its funny how all the naysayers talk all this BS but this car is built upon information obtained from SCCA Touring/British touring car feedback. All these cars easily push 280bhp+ NA without a turbo. The engine has forged crankshaft, pistons, upgraded rockersarms, revised cams and pushes 240 from the factory. Is it worth it YES, from an american perspective just look at the ignorance above. Its funny how small minded americans are sometimes, especially when they think a 500bhp OHV engine is “Hightech”. Its funny how the Germans, Italians, French, and Japanese are all leading the way for highperformance small displacement engines.

This is a Cobalt SS competitor. And even if Chev came out with Cobalt SS-RR-XX-ZR1 super duper edition, it wouldn’t sell 300 in 10 minutes.

Go read Sport Compact car and pull your pud. There’s a specific market for this type of vehicle, and it’ll never impress those who like ball-out HP.
HP-per-liter is a bunk argument.
Corner: cobalts aren’t bought by rice-boys.
This is a Mugen product. Callaway or Saleen could sell 300 souped-up aveos or foci in 10 minutes, but what would be the point?

I just don’t see why some people on here think that what they like should be the automotive standard for everyone else. Who says everything you all don’t like is crap? I dislike lots of cars, think even more of them are overpriced, but I don’t think they’re all rubbish. Just not my faves. The Mugen Civic RR is a limited edition Japanese car, done by the most respected Honda Tuner… Japanese or otherwise… using Formula 1 and JGTCC derived technology, and it’s sold specifically in the Japanese market. It kicks ass on the most popular Japanese circuits… Tsukuba and Suzuka, because that’s where it’s intended to be raced. If it’s offered anywhere else, It’ll be because of strong demand for it. Nothing else. It ain’t overpriced in Japan, and that’s where it’s sold. Quit bitching about it already… THEY”RE ALL SOLD, SO YOU CAN’T HAVE ONE!!! Now go spend your $40 grand on something else you actually like… those of you who actually have $40 grand to spend. Jeez…

jamaica, that’s a good point. you have to evaluate the value of the car with respect to it’s user’s location and culture. being that it’s a production car and laps the tsukuba circuit in 1:06 range and looking at the cars that lap around that time in tsukuba which includes the corvette z06, the ferrari f40, bmw m5, bmw m3 csl, and a few others — I can see why it would sell so quickly.

Mercs, Bimmers, Audis and Porsches would only be sold in Germany, Ferraris and Lamborghinis would all stay in Italy, American muscle cars would stay in the US and all the Jaguars and Aston Martins would be stuck in the UK. Why? Because like some of these dumb asses, they’d all think foreign cars are overpriced crap, and they’d only drive cars that their country makes. There wouldn’t be an import market. I know some of these dumb f@*%ers probably think that would be a good thing, but sensible folks know better.
