Honda will invest nearly $40 million to upgrade its Honda Manufacturing of Indiana (HMIN) assembly plant in Greensburg to enable it to boost annual capacity by 50,000. The added production, which will also include the Civic Hybrid for the first time, is due to kick off early in 2013.

As part of the upgrade, Honda will hire about 300 new production line workers. Honda is now hiring for the positions, which include positions in stamping, welding, painting, plastic injection molding, sub-assembly and final assembly operations. The plant's capacity will grow to a total of 250,000 vehicles per year. Last fall, the plant added a second shift that effectively doubled its capacity.

The Indiana plant was the first North American Honda plant to build a hybrid when it began production of the Acura ILX in April.

Honda builds the Civic Sedan, Civic Natural Gas, Acura ILX, and Acura ILX Hybrid models at the Indiana plant.
