I don't understand why American Honda and Honda Canada can't make the decision to offer this car in our market. Just call it the Civic SiR if they are afraid of the "Type R" designation. You would think the JDM craze in the aftermarket world would have made an impact on the dumbasses on making better decisions and bringing cars we want.

My town is filled with punks in Civics, Integras, and Corolla S's who think they drive Corvettes. I had one try to race me on my sportbike today... If only he knew how little throttle it took to beat him...

RicerisNicer, though I'll admit the Mustang isn't the hottest thing on the road, I'd find it funny too if a not even 200HP Civic pulled up next to a 300HP Mustang and revved his engine. In a straight line red light drag race they aren't faster no matter how you look at it...

and Bosley, the ZR1 would/has blow F430 around a track, and it just slightly closes the price gap over the Z06

Well if it makes you feel better this car is shit. IT DOES NOT HANDLE WELL IT Doesn't HAVE A IRS rear suspension it has a torsion bar the civic we have does have IRS both the sedan and the coupe. what we are missing out on is the uprated 220hp Japanese motor.

also the civc is not weak sauce it just isn't a straight line squirter. all a civic Si is a hot civc. If i had to have a car i'd race at a track and not worry about resale appearance ( not that the new civic is great), reliability, maintenance, insurance then the civic ain't your car but if you value and exciting car that you can live with and has arguably one of the best engine/ manual transmisson combos you can buy, your car is calling.

KEVIN KEVIN KEVIN KEVIN KEVIN KEVIN KEVIN

For the most part kids who like to race are willing to race anything, however it is much more common for them to race cars they think they have a chance against. I don't know where you were raised or how you were brought up, but the mustang has never been anything special. The Si is not far behind at all, and for 10k+ off it's well worth the price difference.

OMG Guys KEVIN DRIVES A ****ing MUSTANG!!! LUCKY!!!!!

I've never understood why Honda doesn't bring these cars to the US. The Si is weak sauce compared to other "tuner" cars like the Cobalt SS, SRT4, Mini Cooper S, or WRX. These cars would sell, even with a $25,000 price tag.

I also don't comprehend why the US didn't get the hatch version of this generation Civic. A hatch is the perfect way to have a small economical car and still have cargo space. I guess they want people to buy the Fit instead... it's practically the same thing. I'm just not a fan of 4-doors.

Andy, I don't know about that. A Ferrari F430 would drive circles around a Z06 Corvette around a street track like Suzuka in Japan, but 7 litres of displacement in the 'Vette would blow the Ferrari's 3.6L on a strip easy.

I'm not saying the new Vette (for example) isn't a sick car, it is. And it's much better on a street course than its predecessors, you're right. But for the same reason it's fast it's hard to control (being front engine-rear wheel doesn't help either). They're just designed differently....

carmaster, I wanted to test drive diesel Jetta wagon, and could not find neither diesel with 3 pedals nor Jetta wagen (as they say) in 40 miles radius. Test drove regular Jetta with 4 cylinders and 3 pedals and came to the conclusion that 4 cylinders Civic is light years ahead in NVH, handling and road feel. The thing is that instrument cluster in Honda is build like '80s Atari game, and it does suck. Jetta is very ergonomically thought out car.

borat is not finding jetta wagon in stock good or bad? lol armstealer please refer to japanese as 'japanese' not 'japs' you should learn cultural respect.

IMO wagons are slowly coming back as Americans are starting to think they save more gas than SUVs with the same amount of space in the back ( don't argue that statement because new elantra touring has more space in back with seats down than nissan murano) Im pro-wagon and we need more of compact ones and midsize ones. Honda should bring this over here, its sport looking, affordable and its an eye-catcher. white and black ones would look nice with sport tires and rims. thats why mercedes and bmw didnt get rid of there's. they may sell slow but they know what they're doing! lol

The reason they don't bring this to the US is because they only sold about 10 of those Si hatchbacks. I had a '00 Si, when it was the coupe, and sadly, in 99-00, 160hp was enough to make you say wow.

Unfortunately, the 198hp they put in today is barely adequate as a base engine by today's standards.

If you are going to get into the who-copied-who game, I'm pretty sure it wasn't the Japs that invented the Hot Hatch either...

Except B2009 Honda has had this general design with the Civic hatch for decades and if anything Ford copied off of Honda when they came out with the Euro spec Focus.

I think this is a Rip off of the Euro Ford Focus RS. Imitation but not the real thing. And you know what I say to that. Accept no substitutes.

Bosley, i think that was the american car of the past, with cars like the G8, CTS-v, C6/ ZR1 vettes, hell even the cobalt SS... they are all showing that american cars can be fast(er) down the strip and around the track

I love it when the odd Asian piece shows up on Speed's PassTime with enough mods to qualify for the space program and probably costing as much as well then farts its way down the track barely faster than the stock piece. I realize as Bosley points out that's not their strength but you have to wonder how many of these add-ons are built to just to generate strange noises as opposed to usable power.

Jake, that actually goes in all directions. I know of plenty of people here in Germany that would love models sold in the US that aren't sold here in Germany, those with enough money buy them in the US and have them shipped over but still more could be sold if they were on the European market.

Bosley -

Your selection of cars that haven't broght over is a bit short, I could list over 100 models that I want to see over here, but alas, Americans probably wouldn't buy enough of them to make it profitable. Sad, I know, but it's the truth.

Kevin, while I agree that quite a few of these kids think they are Paul Walker in Fast & Furious, I also think that these cars are designed to drive differently than your mustang. Most of the AMerican sports cars are designed to be faster in a straight line (ie drag races) but alot of the Asian and European sports cars are designed to be faster on street-style race courses with high speed turns and braking. Just different styles of racing. It's hard to compare them sometimes as a result.

But yeah, those imports with a big muffler and small 4-cylinder sound like a fart in a can or a kazoo coming off the line compared to a big V6 or V8.......

The only thing I don't like about these "souped up" Hondas is the 16 year old kids that get them and act like they are the fastest thing ever!1 I can't tell you how many times I've had them rev at my Mustang. While I know they can (any car can be actually) modded to be faster. It's still a civic.

Well along with the Volkswagon Scriocco, this is another great looking car, that's not a fuel pig, that North America will not be getting.

It's gotta be a cost issue getting it here, versus how many they think they'd sell (along with safety certification issues maybe). The only words that come to mind are WTF!
