They will beat GM at everything including reliability build quality and resale value. Not to mention design and attractiveness in my opinion

Sorry, but how do we know this story about availability of the 50-state Honda diesel being moved up to MY’09 is even true? What’s missing is 1) the name(s) of the Honda exec(s) who said this (or at least the customary “on condition of anonymity,” etc.), 2) confirmation from the business world, 3) confirmation from American Honda of Torrance, CA, and 4) confirmation on any Honda Web site — and we’re now a week into the 40th Tokyo Motor Show at which this news was alleged.

I got twice the cash to snap up this petroleum-independent sweetie, but it’s still illegal…

they really should make a diesel pilot. my grandma is coming to america soon and we need something fuel-efficient and 7/8-seat avail. if that comes to prod, then we can end the lease of our accord with that car.

I like that. Diesel is a good idea. And if Honda manages to get it by 2009 they will beat GM's diesels to market by about a year

z06: but figure in the higher mpg.

I'm getting about 17 in mixed driving on gas. 17.6 cents a mile. Diesel is selling for $3.43 near where i get on the freeway. If I get 19.5 with a diesel, I'm ahead.

autonut:" CAFE should be scrapped. honda would do this without government. because it makes sense

OK, self proclaimed patriots, that is what 3 much larger and more mature "domestic" manufacturers could've done but completely failed. They are destined to manufacture in China, Mexico and bf North Korea and sell those quality inferior pieces of shit they try to call cars upon retarded segments of society.
With one stroke of brilliant engineering Honda re-wrote the rules. Their V-6 diesel will have more torque then V-8 or even V10 and it will be applicable to truck use. With usual Honda mileage big 3 plus big ass Toyota have to jump somersaults in front of Senate to prove that they could meet CAFE required targets on mileage and subsequently on pollution (those 2 are closely related). Instead of patronizing prostitutes on Capitol Hill and their pimps lobbyist those "mature" companies should invested in engineering their shareholders fortunes, just like Honda does. Those Accords will be made in Ohio, the same place where quality challenged Jeeps come from.

I think this is great, and I applaud Honda for offering a diesel, especially 50-state legal with no urea injection. I would definitely buy one for a commuter car or family sedan - it should turn in some very nice fuel economy numbers that will perform better than hybrids on the highway, and last a very long time.

However, with diesel priced at $3.35 a gallon now, higher than premium gas, I think the fuel cost will turn off many potential buyers. It's a shame because this really is great technology.

I own a diesel vehicle now, and while I love it, the $3.35 a gallon really pisses me off.

Boring can be a virtue. Many people just want a car that runs cheaply, reliably and with the best gas mileage possible. It seems the more interesting the cars are, the less of those attributes you get. I for one will have to decide if this car, or upcoming VW diesels will be the way to go for my next commuter. Actually what I really want is a Mercedes C220d

About time...maybe all the hype-rid silliness will go away, and we can save our landfills from all the batteries (or the cars themselves) about to fill them up...I can't wait till those suckas have to replace them batteries. At 3-5k, and the realization that that old battery has to go somewhere (they are not recyclable) they'll wonder why the christ they bought that POS golfcart in the first place. Cradle to grave, the hype-rids contribute MORE crap to the environment than diesels, and don't even get me started on plug-ins.

Good start, but where Honda really needs diesel power is in vehicles powered by the J-series V6's. Start with the Pilot, Ridgeline, Accord, and Odessey, then spread to the RL, TL, and MDX

I'm all for more engine choices, but this isn't going to balance Honda's head-in-the-sand policy towards plug-in hybrids.

Thank you Honda. The more diesels that are around, the more peole will accept them. Diesels were starting to catch on where i am from, but then with the diesel jetta being gone for a year it somewhat slowed things down. I hope they pick back up again.
