Honda REMIX concept

11/29/2006, 5:07 PM

By admin

The Honda REMIX small sport concept made its world debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show today. The REMIX explores the shape and design of a two-seat sports car focused on performance and daily usability.

“Pure Honda to the core, the REMIX concept vehicle focuses on a simple, lightweight and fun-to-drive philosophy,” said John Mendel, senior vice president of American Honda. “The concept balances sports car virtues with real-world practicality.”

The REMIX Small Sport Concept is a product of the Honda R&D Americas, Inc., Advanced Design Studio in Southern California. Purely a design concept, the vehicle is fashioned around a front-wheel drive small car platform with a 4-cylinder engine and a 6-speed manual transmission. A sport suspension, along with aggressive tires and brakes, further supplement its performance side.

I like the front but the back is ugly

Agreed. Front looks modern and futuristic but the rear just doesnt do it for me. But thats just because I love the Coupe shape versus the shooting brake style i.e. 2000 Si vs 2004 Si, A4 vs A3 etc…I’m sure it will be a ton of fun to drive though, as all sporty high-revving Hondas are…

I thought “Oh, neat” for about 5 seconds until I started looking at it closely. I can’t say I find anything very appealing about this design.

Slap some rear quarter windows on it and you have the next Insight Hybrid/Si!

My thoughts exactly, christianboy10. If they rework the back-end, it could be the next “Honda 3000″. ;)

“S3000″ I meant, obviously. Damn keyboard.

Not quite ‘S3000′… more of a 9th Gen CRX. Give it some rear quarter windows, and a more realistic tire/suspension, and watch them fly out the door. Bonus if it come with a hybrid or fuelcell powerplant

@GT40, I disagree, the Honda/Acura HSC Concept was sexy.

But this back end is horrible.

Pure function and handling, ignore styling. Very true to the Honda philosophy.

but why doesn’t it have any powerif it’s going to be a sports car? Physics mandates that pushing is easier than pulling. The REMIX explores the shape and design of a two-seat sports car focused on performance. It’s not a sports car.

global_lightining is right. make that, put the current 2.0 Si motor in it, and everyone and their brothers will buy it. but they never will do that, becasue it will hurt Si sales.

This is what happens when you cross pollinate a Honda Element with a VW Beetle and just about any current Peugeot.

PS: Honda needs to discover that crazy concept called torque.

Nearly as bad as the Acura concept in the previous thread.

Torque? in a Honda??? Honda car engines are essentially scaled-up motorcycle engines. Driving in the lower RPM range gives you nice, if boring, fuel economy; then crank it to 6500+ for the fun stuff.

Oh man, what’s that?? First thing I though of was the REFLEX too, but from the rear three quarters it looks like a retro AMC Gremlin. No good can come of that.

I smell Honda CRX replacement. The whole philosophy is great, but it looks so much like a rear-drive car… why don’t they just make it a subcompact rear-drive car?!

Anything that has only two seats is going to be quite unpractical. Why cling to economy car laurels, Honda? Build a subcompact, rear-drive, 2500lb, two-seater CRX. Just build it and we’ll love you for it and buy buy buy.

It’s interesting as a design excercise but the whole ’shooting brake’ concept had been done much better than this.

The thing looks way too cutesey for a performance car too…it screams ‘Meow, Hello Kitty’ instead of ‘I want to rip the beating heat out out of your chest while I piss down your throax’.
