Manual shifters might be fun if you only ride on the weekends or, but for people who use their cars and bikes for commuting to work every morning, having to shift in stop and go traffic every day gets old real fast, not to mention physically tiresome. In college I remember driving my 5-speed pickup truck to school and work every morning in bumper to bumper traffic. Man what a pain in the ass that was, sometimes my left leg would cramp up from all the shifting! I almost rear-ended somebody because I couldn’t downshift due to my leg cramping up. Imagine what would happen to you if your leg or your hand cramp up on a bike. You would be dead for sure!

Anyone with testicles should care about the release of a new VFR1200, this is huge news in the motorcycle world and most likely blow anything with 4 wheels away that the complainers on the board drive.

I will admit Buell builds a couple decent bikes, but they’ve limited themselves to the 1000+cc market, and a lot of people out there just don’t need that much engine. Their lineup is just too small and primarily centered on a single 1200cc air-cooled engine. I actually considered a Buell Blast as my first motorcycle, but the Ninja 250 is a much better bike in my opinion.

I wasn’t trying to trash Harley and Indian btw, I like some of them. I just flip when people who probably don’t even ride trash sport-bikes… Or worse old men telling me “REAL men ride Harleys”.

NMOFGM left out Grandeur, Titan, Iron Horse and Buell, among others. Titan is probably my favorite. If my wife would let me ride, that’s what I’d have. 2Wheel, Buell makes a decent sport bike. Check them out.

Import bikes are unsafe unreliable and un-American?

When it comes to safety, a motorcycle is a motorcycle and safety is in the RIDERS hands, not the BIKES. If you wreck a Harley you’re just as screwed as if I wreck my Kawi. A sport-bike is not inherently more dangerous.

As for reliabilty you really shouldn’t be trashing the imports… While Harley has cleaned up their act very well from what I hear, they used to have so many reliability problems that I’ve heard them called the poster child of motoring unreliability, as the saying goes “95% of Harleys are still on the road……….the other 5% made it home!”

I WOULD buy American… If an American company actually built a sport-bike that can compete with the best that Japan and Europe has to offer. Harleys might look cool, but that’s really about all they offer, an image. My Kawasaki Ninja offers real performance, and it’s cheaper too.

It’ll be just as unreliable and poorly built as their cars. Americans don’t give a crap about bikes unless they are Harleys or Indians. Japanese crotch rockets are unsafe, unreliable and unAmerican. Everyone knows that driving, or in this case, riding an import is just not cool.

@ Raineman, I’ve got no idea what Hondas current sport-touring bike gets, but Kawasakis 1352cc Concours sport touring bike gets 36mpg if that’s any comparison. If I were buying a bike primarily intended for long distance travel like this bike or the Concours I wouldn’t mind saving on gas on those long trips.

The fact that Left Lane News knows the significance this bike represents is most impressive and indicates to me that they have their pulse on all things motoring. The V4 VFR has been around for ages but changes are always welcome. Looks like Honda has their own interpretation of BMW’s paralever rear suspension too (at least appearance-wise).

I ride on occasion – but come on LLN? I’m not on here to look at spy shots of a motorcylce. This maybe kinda controversial – but sport bikes look pretty much the same, give or take the exhaust placement and minor styling pieces. I still am a fan of the Ninja’s as far as sport bikes are concearned.

@05Z88Path – I’m on LLN because of the fact they don’t post about racing news. This seems to be more industry orientated and while auto racing is great, it’s not a part of industry news who wins or loses. They do put on here what does relate, like what companies are pulling out or into certain circuits, but actual drivers victories doesn’t make for LLN type news.

If I were to get a Honda bike it’d be a CBR but none the less that’s a great looking bike, not sure if I like that headlight but… whatever. I wonder what the fuel economy is on a motorcycle with cylinder deactivation? I bet it’s pretty nice…

I agree with you TornadoGTI on both your points, that it might not hurt to have a motorcycle section on left lane news (Being able to go to just one website for bike and car news would be awesome) and that most “Sport-Touring” bikes are kinda boring, I assume because the touring market is more oriented towards older non-Harley riders.

@ keet – I couldn’t agree more. If you look at the name alone, it is a website for anything that should be seen in the left lane (fast lane). Motorcycles are certainly included in this. I do ride, VERY REGULARLY, and would love to see a motorcycle portion on this site. Just seperate it. Auto section and Bike section.

As for the V4 in this Honda. That is very nice and I do like it. This is a segment of the market that is largely ignored. Sport Touring bikes with an emphasis on the sport. They all seem to be sport touring bikes with an emphasis on the touring. My Kawisaki ZZR600 is about the only 600cc that fits this, now this, with 1200 cc could be a nice upgrade for me.
