Spied: 2016 Honda Ridgeline

by Drew Johnson

Honda\'s next-generation Ridgeline is getting ready for its big debut.

Honda's next-generation Ridgeline pickup truck has been spotted up close for the first time while undergoing testing near Honda's research and development facilities in Ohio.

Already previewed in sketch form, the latest spy shots confirm that Honda's next mid-size pickup with adopt a conventionally shaped crew cab rather than the flying buttress look used on the original Ridgeline. Honda is hoping a more typical profile will lure a greater number of traditional pickup truck buyers.

Under that three-box body will reside the same basic underpinnings you'll find under the latest Honda Pilot. The Ridgeline will also borrow the Pilot's 3.5L V6 and all-wheel drive system. A six-speed auto will be the Ridgeline's standard gearbox, but Honda's latest nine-speed automatic transmission hasn't been ruled out.

On the styling, expect a front end that mimics the latest Pilot and CR-V. However, the Ridgeline will likely adopt a more up-right grille to set it apart as a more rugged utility vehicle.

The all-new Honda Ridgeline is expected to debut either this year or next, with an on-sale date scheduled for sometime in 2016.
