Following a number of complaints about a possibly offensive Hummer H3 commercial, GM has reworked the 30-second spot to be less controversial, reports Automotive News. The ad contrasts two men at a grocery store checkout — one purchasing a container of tofu, the other arriving with slabs of meat. The tofu man is then shown leaving the grocery store to buy a Hummer. He’s later shown in the vehicle eating a burger, followed by the tagline “restore your manhood.” In response to complaints, GM has changed the line to “restore the balance.” The Leftlane Perspective: Without the shock factor, this ad loses much of its value. Wasn’t political incorrectness the point?

Restore your manhood by buying a I5 cute ute, hmmmmm, either stand up to your overbearing hippie wife or wait for the camaro my friend. I hate PC BTW. Leftwing censorship is just as dangerous as right wing.

I’ve only seen the revised ad, but it seems to me the two versions would target completely different people.
Maybe it makes sense to try to appeal to the non-macho.

Either way I appreciate that GM is being totally honest by saying that the only reason to buy a Hummer is to compensate for you own insecurity.

I saw the first ad, and it was kind of funny. Of course, buying an H3 still qualifies you as a fruitpie anyway, so whats the big deal?

the commercial would be ok if they dropped a 4.8 liter v8 into the h3, or at least the vortech 4200.
How can you get your manhood back when the soccer mom with the sienna destroys you at the stoplight?

The H3 is to conpensate for your insecurity, not your manhood. Of course it gives you plenty of security on the outside too, being that it’s a big overgrown box…

People are too sensitive even the most slightly delicate subject, or the most slightly “offensive” statement are made a huge deal of because some butthead thinks that it’s “offensive”. People need to lighten up. I can understand certain subjects like tobacco because we don’t want our kids and the generations after us doing it, but come on! Complaints about a commercial that a guy buys a Hummer and pretends to “restore his manhood”… pretty pathetic argument to me.
Hummers don’t restore your manhood anyways. It is to compensate for the security you never had, because it is a BIG FAT SLOW OVERGROWN GIANT OF A BOX. An overgrown to be extinct dinosaur, if you will. It may help with someones pathetic insecurities.
In my opinion Hummer has no purpose besides the H1 which is discontinued, a gas hog, and an expensive off road toy. The H2 is just a POP icon, and H3 is the hummer that never should of been.
Anyways back on topic. People are waaay to offended by the silliest, stupidest and strangest things. Probably some peace organization in NY (I live in NY and I see lots of these organizations at parks) or something that thought it would be offensive to tofu eaters. I would barely call this “offensive”…
Anyways I think this was a waste of time people can be so sensative sometimes. I can understand if it hurts us or our children and generations after, but this is just silly!

i read all these comments i didnt notice a single person point out the fact that there was a MAN in this commercial that bought the H3 i mean no one has said anything about him how do we know it wasn’t him who complained about this add i mean wouldnt all of you complain about a commercial that reaches MILLIONS sayin that you have no manhood or says you have a lack of manhood or your insecure about your manhood so how do we know that this guy didnt complain about the add and organize the complaints personelly i think the first commercial was mildly humarious but still the fact remains that the H3 blows and this was just a way for Gm to recover from over production of a vehicle we all know they cant sell and the people that do buy them are only buying to either make statement or for “protection” that they dont have either at home or in the vehicle they currently drive and NO real men drive H3s and only pop icons or rich old white guys or rich soccer moms buy H2s Hummer sadly has become useless and the only way to recover from this horrific mistake is to bring back the orignial Hummer which will never happen

I only drive extremely tall vehicles when I occasionally rent a 15 foot Isuzu NPR Diesel for my work. I get very tired of wanting to see around Hummers, Jeep Grand Cherokees and Escalades while driving my very low to the ground coupe.

GM claims they changed the ad “in response to complaints” however my bet is that excuse is pure BS and just a cover for the real reason they changed the ad – poor marketing. The ad in it’s original form directly insulted all men who do not currently own a Hummer as having inadequate “manhood” – not a good idea to insult potential customers – no matter what your trying to sell…
