The H2 SUT is a pickup truck version of the popular H2 Hummer. Like the H2, the H2 SUT carries passengers and cargo, but does so with a twist: an open cargo helps with transportation of larger items. When cargo requires more space, a 4-foot by 6-foot pickup bed can be created by powering the rear window into the Midgate, then folding forward the Midgate and rear seat.

With four passengers on board, the bulkhead at the rear of the SUT's passenger compartment remains upright, still providing ample cargo-carrying capacity.

The H2 SUT also offers an enjoyable open-air driving experience. At the push of a button, the driver can lower all four side windows and the rear window. Using a separate switch, the standard sunroof can also be opened, giving SUT an especially open feeling.

The SUT model is considerably longer than the regular H2. It is 203.6 inches long, compared to 189.8 inches for the SUV. The SUT's wheelbase is 133.7 inches, compared to 122.8 inches for the SUV.

Power comes from a 6.2 liter V8 producing 393 horsepower at 5700 rpm and 415 pound-feet of torque at 4300 rpm. A six-speed automatic is standard.

The truck is capable of traversing a 40% off-camber slope, ascending or descending a 60% hill, and towing 8,200 lbs. The H2 is also capable of fording 20 inches of water and climbing a 16-inch vertical wall. The truck's extreme width helps prevent it from overturning in certain situations.

The H2 is built by t by AM General at one of the company's plants, in Mishawaka, Indiana.

2008 Update

The updated Hummer H2 offers many interior and exterior changes.

Interior improvements include aluminum trim and second row climate and audio controls. The update is an attempt to improve the much criticized H2 interior by improving overall comfort and luxury with redesigned features including a new instrument panel and improved seats.

The exterior has been slightly refined for the 2008 model year. A new enlarged lower grille allows for better air movement along with widened gaps on the main grille. The lower bumper has also been slightly modified, now painted silver.

To match the performance upgrades are several safety improvements. A new electronic stability control system provides rollover mitigation technology. In addition to stability control, a new traction control system has been added. Other new safety features include roof rail head curtain side impact airbags for all rows, tire pressure monitoring, and safety belt pretension technology.
