The Hummer H2 is the larger of the two Hummer SUVs currently on the market. It was first launched in 2003 and is built on the same GMT820 platform as the previous-generation Tahoe, Escalade, Suburban, and so on. However, the shared platform doesn't tell the whole story. The front end uses a 2500-Series pickup truck frame, the middle is a proprietary design, and the rear uses a modified GM 1500-Series pickup frame.

Weighing 6,400 lbs, the H2 is certainly no featherweight. Power comes from a 6.2 liter V8 producing 393 horsepower at 5700 rpm and 415 pound-feet of torque at 4300 rpm. A six-speed automatic is standard.
When it comes to city driving, the H2 is often criticized for its sub-10 mpg fuel economy. But it's off-road driving where the H2 really shines.
The truck is capable of traversing a 40% off-camber slope, ascending or descending a 60% hill, and towing 8,200 lbs. The H2 is also capable of fording 20 inches of water and climbing a 16-inch vertical wall. The truck's extreme width helps prevent it from overturning in certain situations.
The H2 is built by t by AM General at one of the company's plants, in Mishawaka, Indiana.
2008 Update
The updated Hummer H2 offers many interior and exterior changes.
Interior improvements include aluminum trim and second row climate and audio controls. The update is an attempt to improve the much criticized H2 interior by improving overall comfort and luxury with redesigned features including a new instrument panel and improved seats.
The exterior has been slightly refined for the 2008 model year. A new enlarged lower grille allows for better air movement along with widened gaps on the main grille. The lower bumper has also been slightly modified, now painted silver.
To match the performance upgrades are several safety improvements. A new electronic stability control system provides rollover mitigation technology. In addition to stability control, a new traction control system has been added. Other new safety features include roof rail head curtain side impact airbags for all rows, tire pressure monitoring, and safety belt pretension technology.
