beatus: funny you mention the Grand Cherokee because I went off on a bit of a rant halfway through that post and then deleted it. True story: we had a ‘99 Grand Cherokee 4.7 Limited for awhile. It always made a ‘clunk’ when downshifting into 1st at, say, at stoplight. Took it in 3 times to two different dealers and were told that was normal for that particular transmission. I was skeptical. To make a long story short, we traded it in- on what I can’t even remember- and two weeks later the salesman calls me to say that when they finally got around to doing their ’safety’ inspection the tranny puked its guts between its spot on the lot and the service bay. They had to eat the 3 grand. That was our second Jeep. Want an even funnier story? The first Jeep we bought and traded in was a ‘93 Country edition Cherokee. I actually really liked that one, but again- for whatever reason- we traded it. A month or two later we’re back at the same dealer when the salesman says ‘hey, remember that white Cherokee?’, well I sold it to a buddy of mine and one day he opened the door at a gas station and the door fell off.

Do you think if I ever buy a third one I’m putting way too much faith in 3rd time lucky?

Yeah, but the Wrangler does what it is meant to do very well, as did the Grand Cherokee Limited. Only the 1st gen Hummer did that, but at a hefty price tag and a very uncomfortable ride.

The whole reason for GM buying Hummer in the first place was to out-Jeep Jeep. Except, like a poor marksman, they kept missing the target. In fact they never even took a shot at Jeep’s heart, which is obviously the Wrangler. Too late now. The Wrangler lives on- dismal quality, poor fuel mileage and all- while Hummer faces the prospect of relocation at best or extinction at worst. Maybe everyone who called them Dinosaurs from the beginning were right after all.

Personally, I just think Hummer just needs to go low production. A few thousand a year based off of current platforms. Not necessarily a high volume or profit brand, just for those who would like one. Make a…

-Small SUV. A bit smaller than the current H3, nothing special, just a capable vehicle that fits the Hummer brand. The catch; loose a couple hundred pounds.
-Large SUV. Updated H2 on the new platform.
-Mid-size pickup- Great time to take the market. Utilitarian pick-up, based off of small SUV. Just offer GMC Canyon as more work oriented, Hummer pick-up more off-road and “reliable”. Give Chevrolet a true small pick up.

i think if hummer hadn’t wasted so much $ with the H2T and put more effort into THIS; & also never let production get so high on ANY of the hummers, they wouldn’t be selling it. Keep it exclusive. if people have to wait in line for the damn things, thats fine. people are waiting for a Smart ForTwo.

Right now it is not a market for the Truck. I think Hummer will be struggle with this truck…. Unless we will drill our own oil then Hummer will have bright future…..

swamp donkey, did you read the review? I think its pretty obvious that Andrew thinks the H3T is pretty impressive for what it is but that its too late to save hummer for GM. I would like to add that it seems like even if this had come out two years ago when gas was half the price it is now, I don’t think it could have saved hummer from where they are today.

Thanks for the review – another nice one. I like the comparisons, though I wish i could have seen pics of the other two trucks with the Hummer. tho I guess since this was a Hummer event, maybe that’s not kosher. Dunno…

You know I drive a Ford FX4 F-150, out in Glamis Dunes, you see A-LOT of Hummers, and a-lot of Toyota’s and my truck can tow all of them out of the sand, but I must say none of the can pull my out, I need to find a Big Diesel truck, hmmmmm, mabe I need to get a Big Diesel Truck, Chevy or Dodge…..
