I think the real point is not to trade in JUST to save gas. However, if you're going to trade because you need something new, or want something new, then consider something that gets better mileage.

My point is I can't imagine RaineMan's friends could fare any better trading in one truck for another. They probably did worse then Motley Fool's example of trading in a Suburban for a hybrd. It would take 7 years to make up the lost money on that trade in. I imagine RaineMan's friends will be behind financially on their trucks for a long time when they are only saving 5mpg.

RaineMan, did those guys you know really save any money trading in one truck to buy another?

In most cases the money someone looses on trading in a truck & buying a hybrid will take years to make up at $4/gallon. Trading in a old track for a new truck would probably take a decode to make up the savings of 5mpg.

This is a great Motley Fool article on the math:

The H3 is the only Hummer that I think is ok. That's b/c it's not some gargantuan with a monster V8. I know a few guys who have traded in their F-150s for H3s b/c the H3 gets 5MPG better.

Too heavy, too expensive, too late, too bad.
I still like that someone is still building low volume specialty niche vehicles(not everyone can live with a civic/accord). This ones just not for me.

I like it! the I5 would be okay if it wasn't overweight... If hummer could bring its weight down on its vehicles. Chuck Diesels in them...they might have a shot at stickin around somehow.

Frylock- Colorado doesn't come with a V-8.

Du_Biggs- Hey, haven't seen your username around. Just as an introduction, my usernames jaycj08. You seem like an ass! :D

But in all seriousness... The automotive world employs approximately one out of six or so Americans in the U.S.. If you think that doesn't affect the economy, then I really don't know what does.

payton bird- I usually don't have many complaints for the Colorado, aside from no smaller engine sizes and lackluster options, but the suspension isn't entirely different. Adjusting some spring rates and other variables helps, but only in the confines of what the original Colorado was supposed to do. I would disagree that the H3 is better off-road than the Wrangler, the Wrangler has a large aftermarket and much easier to maneuver, but neither are no longer cheap to say the least. Comparing four door versions I suppose you could argue that. I would agree with you though that the H3 is a lot more comfortable, and feels a lot more modern.

monte,ihustle- Please, tell your *attentive* audience what your trying to prove. We all need to have a good laugh, since you obviously have so much beef I'm guessing your both big men who slave all day. And hey, best of all your "wives" would be laughing too!

A4- How about Commodore Ute?

justinhk2000, LOUD NOISES!!! I CAN TYPE IN ALL CAPS TOO. BUT NO MATTER WHAT TYPESETTING YOU USE, YOUR POINT IS STILL INVALID AND IRRELEVANT!

GM DIDNT THINK OF THIS TRUCK LAST NIGHT THEN SHIT IT OUT TODAY. VEHICLES ARE DEVELOPED OVER A FEW YEARS AND COST HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS...NOT BRINGING IT TO MARKET AFTER THAT WOULD BE A WASTE, EVEN IF THEY ONLY SOLD A SMALL AMOUNT OF THEM.

As for GM being responsible for the economy, i hope you are joking, If not, let me know and I will pay for you to go to the learning annex and take a simple course on economics.

i can't figure out how some people on this site can even manage to work a computer...

I love seeing how many people bash things they know nothing about. This thing isn't just a rebadged Colorado, they did a full Hummer-ized suspension on the H3 when it was built from the Colorado platform. The H3 is just as capable offroad as the Jeep Wrangler, and this is essentially the direct competitor to the upcoming Jeep Wrangler based pickup. BTW, even though the H3 is as capable as the Wrangler, it's about 10,000 times more comfortable and civilized. And a Wrangler ain't cheap, either.

@GetReal -- LOL! Brilliant! GM should downsize and Americans should get ready for Barbie's H3T full-scale Dream SUV (with pull-cord that sounds like a real V8!). Mattel would probably to a better job on the interior.

Total sum value of all GM stock is worth less than Mattel.
Yes, the toy maker is worth more than a car maker.

If this crap continues, I will be able to buy all of GM using the change in my pocket. Maybe if GM just built like a body kit for the Chevy Colrado and let the dealer of customer put it on their Colorado, Canyon, or (ugh..) i-Series to turn it into a Hummer H3T. Now, there's something the kiddies could all enjoy.

"Set to hit Hummer dealers this September..."

Are there any left? I know the one in my town has already shut down, and I believe they are turning into a Smart Center. Go figure.

Each one on the lot should have a lead balloon in the box so that salespeople have an accurate analogy to refer to when their prospect brings up the inevitable question of resale value.

Ah, hell. I was gonna make a comment about my disagreement with the truck's appearance. Really, though, my beef is that it doesn't look like a unibody. That, and I think that the crew cab is too sissy for what would be the most badass truck of all time.

^^^^ The solution to that is for GM to get off their ass and make things happen faster. Look how long they're spending on the camaro. Come on, how hard could it have been to make a truck out of the H3?

Well, seeing as this thing was probably greenlighted in late 2006 or early 2007, back when gas prices were less than $2.50 a gallon, seeing as much of the vehicle development was already under way, it was probably too far along for GM to cancel. And had they canceled it anyway, they would have lost the couple hundred million they spent, with no vehicle to sell to amortize those development costs.
