Two years ago, the demand for hybrids was so high that many dealers couldn’t keep them in stock. Today, demand remains high, but availability has increased and many consumers are looking to other options, reports the the Sun Chronicle newspaper. One Massachusetts dealer said interest is beginning to shift to vehicles like the Honda Pilot , a small V6 SUV that is becoming popular with drivers of larger, gas-guzzling SUVs looking to downsize. “I think (hybrid) sales have spiked and leveled off,” said AAA spokesman John Paul. “They’ll continue to be popular with people looking for good fuel economy, or techno-geeks who want the latest and greatest, the next thing on the horizon. [...] Yeah, it’s a little bit cheaper when you go to fill up at the pump, but it’s going to cost you a lot of money to start off with,” he said. The Leftlane Perspective: Consumers will undoubtedly continue to buy hybrids, but it seems they are also becoming aware of other fuel-efficient alternatives that might be more suitable to their needs.
