Despite a general downturn in the auto industry as a whole, sales of hybrid vehicles remain strong, a new report finds. U.S. hybrid registrations spiked by 38 percent in 2007, totaling 350,289 units, with the Toyota Prius retaining its top spot in the market.
According to R.L. Polk & Co., hybrid vehicles own a 2.2% share of the overall vehicles market, but their sales continue to be strong while the entire market took a 3 percent dive.

Toyota ’s Prius retain its top spot as the best selling hybrid vehicle in the U.S., grabbing 51 percent of the hybrid market — up from 43 percent the year before.

California also stayed on top for hybrid sales, representing 26 percent of all hybrid registrations. Florida, New York, Texas and Washington followed, according to CNN.com.
