Hyundai’s all-new 2010 Tucson has only been on the market since December, but the Korean automaker has announced it will be ramping up production of the small crossover to meet stronger than expected market demand.
Since debuting at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show last December, the 2010 Tucson has proven to be an instant hit for Hyundai. As such, the automaker will increase production at the Tucson’s Ulsan, South Korea, factory.

The Tucson hit a sales high of 52,000 units in 2006, but Hyundai only moved 15,000 examples of the CUV in 2009. However, the redesigned Tucson appears to be back on track – thanks to a more stylish body and upgraded powertrain – with January sales up 128 percent.

“We’re going to see a huge jump this year,†Hyundai CEO John Krafcik said of the new Tucson’s expected sales.

Krafcik failed to specify how many extra units of the Tucson would be produced, only saying Hyundai would boost production to “satisfy market demandâ€.
