Likely in an effort to woo even more potential buyers and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the likes of Audi and the other German luxury brands, Hyundai has now shown off an armored version of its Equus flagship. Thanks to all the reinforcements and extra equipment, the car now weighs a whopping 8,466lbs, or over 3,800lbs more than the standard car.

Hyundai went to German specialist Stoof International to perform the upgrades, which consist of a second battery, thicker, bulletproof glass, reinforced door hinges, hydraulic window lifts, a reinforced and protected fuel tank, fire suppression system, and an intercom, AutoCar reported. The Equus Limousine Security has also been stretched by a foot, with the car now measuring in at 17.9 feet.

The body now meets VR7 protection standards for armored vehicles which calls for withstanding shots from any angle, and includes so-called labyrinth overlaps in its panel gaps to keep projectiles from harming occupants. There were at least two armored Equus sedans built, and they can also be outfitted with an infrared light and a three-tone alarm for crowd-dispersion and calling for help.

The standard, 429-horsepower 5.0-liter V8 motivates the car. It's also unknown whether the tires are runflats, but this is more than likely. The brakes and suspension have also been updated to deal with the car's extra heft.
