Korean automaker Hyundai is seriously mulling production of its Veloster concept, according to product planning director Wayne Killen. The Veloster is currently being studied in LA, with Generation Y buyers in the U.S. in mind.

Killen told trade publication Ward’s Auto “our big challenge and focus is to develop a vehicle that appeals to Gen Y.” It’s not known how closely a production car would match the Veloster, which combines roadster and hatchback qualities.

Another Hyundai concept that is sure to see production is the rear-wheel-drive Genesis sedan, which Killen says will be a key “halo” product, positioned at the top of the automaker’s lineup. It’s not known how the Veloster would be priced, but it too would serve as a halo product for the brand. “I think there’s room for more than one halo vehicle,” he said.
