We were expecting the new Hyundai Elantra to debut for the 2013 model year, so we were very surprised to see this prototype and hear rumors for a 2011 model year introduction -– but now we have the pictures to prove it!
On the inside we can see steering wheel mounted audio and cruise control buttons. The gauge cluster shows a 7000 rpm redline and a 140 mph speedometer. In between the gauges, we can see a digital fuel gauge and digital engine temperature readout. We can also see a button the center stack that says “FLDR,” which likely indicates a hard drive to store MP3s.
It looks like the new Elantra will have a slightly longer wheelbase – measuring in by our estimate at 106 and a quarter inches. And, as seen in these photos, the Elantra will have it’s own interpretation of a coupe-like roofline.
Hyundai’s direct-injection 2.4L four-cylinder should end up under the hood mated to a 6-speed transmission.

Maybe GM also got a look at these spy shots and that’s why their sh*tty Cruze has been delayed. They’re busy trying to hunt down a better shade of lipstick.

I saw a TV special on Brenda Priddy (which she ain’t) who takes *most* of these spy-shots. She lives out of motels and her Subaru Legacy and basically hangs around know test-car haunts waiting for one to take a picture of. A TV-news crew followed her around the south-west US and even filming her and her massive tele-photo lensed cameras. They caught an interaction between her and some German VW engineers testing a camoflaged mule. These guys weren’t particularly hostile and asked her calmly and politely not to take pictures (pfff, yeah right) because they would get in trouble with their superiors (… uh-huh). Then she showed pictures of some Honda engineers who were not as polite and who formed a human barricade around the car and hurled obscenities at her. She also claims she’s been chased and even shot-at. What a way to make a living… but I’m sure she and her partner get paid lot’s of money for her pictures.

Ha no doubt johnnycanuck! This thing will run circles around the Cruze. The shape and everything remind me of a mini 2011 Sonata

It looks like Hyundai/Kia might be the one to watch in the near future. They seem to be improving their game at an extremely fast rate.
The next gen Elantra appears as though it will have a sportier shape than the current model, just like its Sonata sibling. I still think the small triangular C-pillar fakeout is unnecessary; there has to be a better and more attractive styling solution than simply slapping a black plastic piece on the C-pillar. It really doesn’t enhance the look of this car or any other car out there that employs this styling practice.

It appears like Hyundai is following a Mazda design track here. It looks like a shrunken Mazda 6 which would be a good thing. More bulk and presence than what the cheap current vehicle has to offer.

Another quantum leap for Hyundai/Kia. Toyota/Honda/Nissan should be very nervous.

Given the fine designs Hyundai/Kia have come out with lately there is every reason to expect that this will look good too. But I’m no fan of the c-pillar on this, however given the camo it’s impossible to tell if it interacts well with the rest of the design. I can see where it could look good, but I can also see where not.

YOu aholes know nothing about the Cruze. GM is delaying it so that it will measure up to GM’s world standard of quality and reliability. Good luck getting any Hyundai to last as long as a GM vehicle that is built to last many hundreds of thousands of mmiles with narry a problem. This Hyundai will be in the junkyard once the warranty expires while our GM’s will be just getting broken in on their way to decades of trouble free service. And you won’t be an unAmerican jackass either. Driving a Hyundai is an embarrassment to your COuntry.

The blacked out C-pillar piece is a relatively small triangle, and much less offensive than that of even the Mazda 6 or that ginormous thingy on the ill-fated Sebring. That interior sure looks like a dead ringer for that of the Mazda 3. Overall, it’s good looking shape, certainly more attractive than the coma inducing Corolla. If they can sell this for about $1,000 to $1,500 less than the Mazda 3 they’ve got a big winner here.

Hi, I’m here to tell you that the Hyundai is much more significantly better than the chevy cruze in every single way, including reliability and value.
Yes, Hyundai has been known for making bad and cheap cars in the past but that is not the case anymore.
Buy hyundai,

NMOFG…that actually wouldn’t be such a bad thing. Fortunately Hyundai gives you their fantastic 10yr/100k warranty with every car. So even if when teh warranty expires it starts showing signs of trouble, I’d be OK with that since I don’t plan to keep the car more than 10 years anyway. Of course, the included no-cost scheduled oil and filter service for 10 years/100k mi doesn’t hurt to keep it running smoothly for years to come.

The shape looks decent, it will probably sell well. That being said though, but it will not sell to me. This is not really my style of vehicle. I find the styling to be a little blah, but my thoughts may change once the camo comes off it. I would take the edgier Cruz over this.

A quick message to NMOFGM…
Did you know your actions actually hurt your cause? The fact that you endlessly praise EVERYTHING GM has ever done and continually crap on EVERYTHING every one of their competitors does just brands you as a biased shill. If you really wanted people to take you seriously you would give credit where credit is due. You can continue to bang the drum for GM but cut out the “American Revolution” signature and illogically biased statements. You can still be a supporter of GM without denying the fact that other manufacturers create nice cars as well. Rest assured that those who actually work at GM aknowledge the greatnesss in their competitors or they would never improve their products to be competitive. in fact that’s what they did for a while and it’s what led them to bankruptcy. GM can change, why can’t you?

Hey MC, you do realize that you sound like an unAmerican jackass suggesting we give credit to japcrap and nazimobiles don’t you? Let me remind you that this is GM Country and we as Americans owe it to General Motors to show our undivided support for the great leadership and being the backbone of this great Country. My daddy and many of my family are devoted union folks, hardworking, devoted and employees for life. No Ford, no Chrysler. Definitley no imports. Anytime anybody came to our house if they were not drivign a Genuaine General motors vehicle, they were asked to park down the street at the high school. My daddy said there will be no trash ever on the premises because he didn’t want to have tow trucks and flatbeds driving all over the property towing those POS vehicles away all the time.
Pardon me if I choose to root for the hometeam.
Be American . Buy American. Buy GM. It is your patriotic obligation
