Hyundai discontinues Entourage minivan

04/09/2009, 10:20 AM

By Andrew Ganz

Facing ever-slipping sales, Hyundai has officially pulled the plug on its Entourage minivan. Already a rare sight on North American roads, Hyundai managed to sell just 5,400 buyers last year, a 67 percent drop-off from 2008. The Entourage was introduced in 2007.

Even at its best year, Hyundai sold just 17,000 Entourage vans, a far cry from the automaker’s expectations. The minivan market has been in a steady decline since SUVs became mainstream more than 15 years ago and many automakers have abandoned the segment altogether; the only domestic automaker to continue selling a traditional van is the brand that invented the segment, Chrysler.

Kia will continue to sell the nearly identical Sedona, however, meaning that the minivan faithful can still shop one of the South Korean automaker’s showrooms. Hyundai will continue producing the Entourage for a few months before killing it at the end of 2009 model year production this summer.

It’s like the ‘g’ spot. They say it’s there but, go ahead, tell me if you’ve ever found it.

I saw one every once in a while. This was supposed to be the T&C (Entourage) to the Caravan (Sedona) and just never really took off. Thats a shame really since there was a lot of nice toys inside this van. Would have been my top pick if I suddenly had a small army of kids to haul around. But the market is what it is, so its all good. You still got choices for Caravan, Sedona, Sienna, Odyssey, and Quest. I think thats enough vans for one not very van-demanding market.

LOl Chrysler can barely sell a minivan even whenits readged as a VW Hyundai doesnt need it and Kia already sells it. It was a bad move to begin with Hyundai should just concentrate on a crossover. I think they have the portico coming soon

I thought the quest is dead. For that matter, everyone who buys a Chrysler minivan apparenty doesn’t know what a sh!tty reputation for reliability they have.

My-Hands down sadest minivan sold in NA list.
1.The Toyota van wagon from the Eighties
2.The Ford Aerostar, one of the worst vehicles for roll-overs.
3.The GM dustbuster trio Illuma, Trans Sport, Sillouette
4.The Hyundai Entourage.

sprockkets – Not that I believe Chrysler has matched the best of the pack on reliability, but you should check out the JD Power award the 2006 Caravan got for most reliable minivan (3 year old verhicles)…

I’ve seen like three since they came out a while ago. I see tons of its Kia sibling though. Strange.
