(Hi-Res Images Added) Hyundai has released images of its new Genesis concept car, which will be on display at the New York Auto Show in April. The rear-wheel-drive vehicle is believed to be related to much-rumored “Equus” project, which was spotted in prototype form by photographers several times last year.
Concept Genesis rides on a prototype of Hyundai ’s all-new rear-wheel drive platform, signaling the brand’s desire to broaden its appeal driving enthusiasts. Concept Genesis is powered by Hyundai’s newly developed Tau DOHC 32-valve V-8 powertrain.
The car features a 53:47 front/rear weight distribution, 4.6-liter V8 engine mated to a ZF 6-speed automatic transmission with manual control and a limited-slip differential. It has a 115.6 inch wheelbase, Infinity Discrete Surround Audi o System, 130 mph top speed, over 300 horsepower, 12.6-inch ventilated brakes, push-button start, and eight airbags.
Hyundai recently announced plans to switch to an alphanumeric naming scheme for its vehicles, with the i50 designation planned for an executive sized sedan. With that in mind, we suspect the Concept Genesis is a preview of the i50.
