Ok first off I have to laugh at all the morones who say that the new genesis is a rip off of a bunce of high end cars. Who cares most car companies have riped off others for years. My grandmother, mother, father, and my self personaly enjoy the leaps that hyundai has made over the years. I laugh at the insecurity of the owners of BMWs high end Lexus and Mercedes. They all are insecure when it comes to a foreign company building a high end luxury sedan. For the first few years of my driving life i didnt have the luxury of driving a nice car. I made do with what I had. Ok I’ll get to the point the new hyundai genesis looks to be a relitively high end low price luxury sedan. All BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus are is a name you dont neceserly get what you pay for. Now comes along a low priced luxury seadan with a great waranty and every owner of a luxury seadan will tear it to shreads. It just goes to show how imiture some people are.

i agree with KDM- rydah….. im a car person, anyone downing hyundai, your not gonna get much out but just your criticism thats only making hyundai bigger as you talk!

daewoo was car to talk about no lie! lol! but hyundai has improve ALOT over the years so give it more time…you’ll be sayin WOW i remember hyundai being a compact car…and it will be as i said in the last comment the next lexus or higher!

Yo elle, wake yo punk @$$ up! You see the new 08 Honda Accords. 1 word to sum it up-UGLY! What happen to style? Even Toyota camry looks “mo betta” than dem Hondas. What a nightmare. Those design cues are as up to date as the Oldsmobile-R.I.P. Wow seriously, without prejudice, those honda accords really $u(k da big 1. Can’t get over it being a Hyundai, well as ignorant as you may be, Hyundai’s new designs are the $#!t and if you don’t know then you betta ask somebody who’s been to the Frankfurt auto show…like me. And all you betta get ready for another @$$ kicker coming from Hyundai, the new Hyundai Genesis Coupe…..Boyeee!
….. a little sidenote, my ebonics is just a medium of my expression to really ignorant people that call themselves auto enthusiast and have the audacity to try and leave their 2 cents worth(less). I truly beg to differ their qualifications to even post any comments. Ask my pals at MotorTrend. and that’s fo realz!

its funny how all of you people who call hyundai a ripoff! hyundai is going to be the next lexus and you know it! you all can go ahead a pay thousands of dollars for a maserati or a cadillac or lexus’s. hyundai is trying to provide all the luxury things for you, and at that-HALF THE PRICE! so lay off talking about hyundai because thats like one of my favorite companies. you guys do even know that honda and toyota were the same way when they first came to the U.S. so let hyundai make its chance (shoot,, some of you guys probably driving hyundai’s as i talk)

C’mon people, how ORIGINAL can car design BE today? Everything has nearly been done, and everything has to be tuned for aerodynamics, seats, doors, etc. So get real, cars are all going to look pretty similar from now on as also no one wants to break the mold and be ostricized by consumers that could not design their way out of a paper bag, but have loads of opinions ad nauseum.

The car itself looks okay, just like the dozens of others out there….nothing stellar, but it isn’t going to be…

you know the first generation hyundai tiburon is one of the most striking coupe that came out long time ago. it’s organic and emotional design is being followed by many these days…yeah, it’s not apple to apple, but the whole surface treatment (some negative surface finessed by bmw, organic, muscular lines) and emotional element of design (rising light catcher or sill line, shaped headlamps with angry eye look, equally impressive angry look tail lamps….etc) it’s all the design element/language that many companies car putting into their cars these days. it was very much well ahead of its time. yes, it could have been more refined and finessed, but that is one original, awesome, striking car, just like the mercury cougar…

i also see genesis design originality on the weak side, but it looks to be well resolved, well proportioned design. it will have a presense on the road from its shear size and proportion. cannot say i love it, but nicely and well done….

Looks like a cross of alot of cars like EVERYONE says even thought the person befor said the same thing, but the nice thing is you get the look for alot less money. Kinda shows you that what you pay for the other cars…..your not getting much when someone else can build a car very similar and alot cheaper. I say bravo hyundia.

Listen to you all!! Complaining because this Hyundai model looks too much like a 5 series or Camry or Infiniti!!
How about some credit to Hyundai for going from a cheapo econo-box for poor people to being compared to BMW and Infiniti in less than 20 years!!!!
The progress they have made is astonishing, give them credit where it is due.
Great job Hyundai, keep up the good work!

Derivative designs are OK when done right, and this one is. Sure a lot of elements remind us of other cars, but they are cars that are successful, and ones that enthusiasts tend to like a bit. Here are a few “original” designs that suck:

Pontiac Aztek
BMW 7 series
Hyundai Tiburon (1st generation)
Edsel
Any older Subaru (they are now pretty derivative)
Caddy CTS (the newer one is nice that it’s toned down)
Chrysler Crossfire
Chrysler Sebring
Jeep Compiss
Dodge Caliber

Going “original” is risky, and hard to do on a 4dr sedan aimed at fairly affluent (read conservative) people, and Hyundai is not in the business of cutting edge design. They are in the business of selling cars at a cut-rate price relative to competitors in the segment. This model fits that mold perfectly.

It looks like a 5-series BMW and an Infiniti M35/45 had a lovechild! It looks nice though for 35k. Captain America is on the $$$ they should name the Luxo brand Genises and take this, the Azera and the Veracruz and give them letter names like H38 H36 and HDX or something

BUT, whatever this is competing with, it’ll be cheaper and offer a better warranty, and that V8 w/ 6 spd?

this’ll sell like hot cakes.

It might not be original, most “original” cars that come out these days are uglier than a a three day old corpse, but this car take what works and puts all together in a package that works.

Why is it that a company like this can in less then 5 years change their image and produce something good looking and what American’s want, yet the American car companies have been struggling for the last decade to produce something that has universal appeal. It looks like the MKZ Should have looked, has RWD and a V8. and probably going to cost under 35K fully loaded.

hyundai cant afford to be outlandish and super creative right now. They need to establish themselves first, which is what they’re doing right now considering that they’re almost outselling VW right now.

For what this is, a rwd v8 sedan, that probably starts under 30k is a great design. Its not supposed to be original. Hyundai is playing it safe to SELL cars and get a good reputation before they can do something crazy.
