Hyundai took the wraps off of the long-speculated i20 three-door earlier today at the Geneva Motor Show. Essentially a shortened version of the recently-introduced i20 compact car, the three-door variant adds a little sporty spice to the mix thanks to a few unique styling touches.
Positioned below the i30 (which is sold as the Elantra Touring in North America), the i20 offers a choice of two gas and two diesel engines mated to five-speed manuals and four-speed automatics. Gas engines range from a 1.4-liter, 80-horsepower unit up to a 93-horsepower 1.6-liter. The diesels include an 85-horse 1.6 and a 103-horse 2.0, both of which are common rail diesel injection powerplants.
The i20 is about the same size as the Accent, which means that it’ll likely wind up replacing that dated model in North America. In Europe, the i20 competes against the likes of the Mazda Mazda2 and the Ford Fiesta, among others.

I like the Accent 3-door but this car is better in pretty much every way. I hope Hyundai can bring in the i20 with at least the 2.0 diesel plant under their “Blue Edition” (?) label…
