Hyundai has officially pulled the sheet on its all-new i30 hatchback. Although its naming scheme is different, the i30 rides on the same platform that underpins the U.S.-spec Hyundai Elantra .

While officially bound for Europe, Leftlane has previously reported on rumors that the next-gen i30 could land in the U.S. at some point – the current Elantra Tourer is actually based on the last-generation i30.

The i30 follows Hyundai ’s fluidic sculpture design language and was designed at the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany. The i30 largely mimics the styling of the Sonata-based i40.

“The new-generation i30 is recognizable thanks to the Hyundai family face with its signature hexagonal-shaped front grille and the jewel-like design of the headlamps, together with distinctive daytime running lights. These lights present an angular shape within a more softly-edged recess, adding a strong personality to the vehicle, as well as a sense of refinement and luxury,” said Thomas Bürkle, chief designer for Hyundai in Europe.

Hyundai remains quiet on U.S. availability, but the i30 should arrive in European showrooms by year’s end.
