The back end looks pretty good. I’m glad it doesn’t look anything like the back end of an Accent 5-door.

I think it looks kind of ugly, but the interior looks nice and that’s what’s most important. I’d drive one.

That would truly be a shame, as there is way too much competition in the 5-door compact hatchback segment already, particularly the Mazda3, Ford Focus and Kia’s own Forte.. but the small-wagon market is practically Hyundai’s own right now.

The previous i30 was offered as a hatchback (shared with the Kia Cee’d) and a wagon.. I’m guessing the yet-unseen wagon version of this will replace the US Elantra Touring for 2013.

If this takes the place of the Elantra Touring, you’re right. That would make sense and probably attract more potential buyers than the current “wagon” body style.

That’s a good point, W-Dan. I’m not sure how I feel about the grill, but its more interesting, likable and unique than what Honda and Mazda have put out recently. Hyundai is definitely on a roll.

Agree. The Elantra will have one of the most complete line of available models within its segment soon.

I wonder if that grille signals what the sedan will be receiving for a refresh in a year. And maybe included in the future coupe?

I like the looks. To my eye looks like Peugeot 308 with more creases and bulges, but overall it is very good looking vehicle.

I think that’s the nicest Hyundai they’ve done yet. The design language really comes through here.

I don’t see why they wouldn’t send it our way. As many of you know one of my vehicles is the current Elantra Touring and while I can’t speak for the U.S. there are plenty others on the roads up here.

If anything, bringing over the current generation was a bit of a gamble. This, on the other hand, looks like a safe bet.

How would this offering be different from an Elantra or Accent 5 door? From the pictures and information in the article, I don’t see how this would fit in between existing models in the lineup?
