Hyundai has announced it will introduce an all-new hydrogen-powered crossover concept at this month’s Frankfurt Auto Show. Dubbed the i-Blue, the CUV runs on Hyundai’s third-generation hydrogen cell technology and rides on a new D-segment 2+2 car-based platform. Hyundai’s previous hydrogen fuel-cell concepts were underpinned by SUV platforms. The i-Blue was designed in Chiba, Japan at Hyundai’s Design and Technical Center
“The i-Blue is Hyundai’s first-ever model designed from the ground up to incorporate fuel cell technology, marking a tremendous leap forward for our R&D program,†said Dr Hyun-Soon Lee, Hyundai’s President of Research and Development. “Our engineering team has successfully designed a more compact fuel cell vehicle, while still realizing the safety, comfort, convenience and driving range of a traditional internal combustion engine vehicle.â€
The i-Blue will share the Hyundai display with a wagon version of its i30 hatchback and the Veloster roadster concept.
