Hyundai deserves this growth.

LS7: “their quality control is just as good, if not better than, the Japanese.” I would agree with that, though I’d diffrentiate between a Maxima and an Eclipse.

still junk. my friends sante fe has 50000 miles on it and feels like 200000. trans shifts funny, steering feels like your turning the tires with rubber links and the dealer says nothing is worn out. maybe opinion but dirt slow and handles like garbage

In the last 3 years Hyundai has offered some much improved designs, materials, technology and QC. Not new standards, but credible options to the present std bearers in some of their classes. When the resale values will reflect this? Is only a question of time and them not wavering from their present course. The new rwd coupe and Genesis is going to be key to developing their image.

Hyundai is selling small driving appliances at low cost and that is their claim to fame. Pretty much in lock step with Toyota. Those appliances are void of soul and driving ambitions but they are becoming popular due to low entry point. Also, technologically they are about 5-8 years behind their peers.
However, for blue collar and emigrant communities it is a ticket to a new vehicle and it probably remain the same for a while.

Hyundai/Kia’s #1 problem is percieved value… which effects resale value. I’ve looked at several of their cars and they seemed as well put together as any Chevy or Ford… and with a longer warranty to boot. But when it comes time to trade in a Hyundia or Kia you don’t get squat for them. That is why people stay away. Get a new one for $20,000 today and in 5 years it’ll be worth $5000. Get a new Honda for $20,000 today and in 5 years it’ll be worth $8000. Big difference.

Stinky007, european cars are actually the bottom of the barrel in terms of quality. If I were stupid enough to ever buy european again, I’ll be sure to dump the POS at no more than 3 years so someone else can deal with the mechanical and elctrical nightmares

Hyundai/Kia earned this and deserve this, improving their quality considerably while keeping their prices in check. Even “lacking their own design language” this upstart bitchslapped the sheer design ugliness of Honda. They have a ways to go before they bump Toyota but they will get there.

Japanese electronics are better than Korean imho LS7, basing this on Casio digital watches vs. chinese and korean counterparts… But then not all Casio watches are made in Japan… :/

Still, Japanese and Korean quality control > American.

Hyundai/Kia’s quality has gone up a lot recently! Not quite up to par with the european manufactures, but they are getting there.
One thing they lack is design… They either copy too much from other asian manufacturers or decide to “go big” and do some crazy hard to understand stuff!

Quality issues? I would much rather bank my money on Koreans, than Americans for quality control. You can even tell by their electronics–their quality control is just as good, if not better than, the Japanese. They certainly lack the “high performance” range, but for the masses looking for just good vehicles for transportation, I think they are damn fantastic. They did have short comings even 5-6 years ago, including suspension, engine efficiency, and transmission. It looks like they closed all the gap. Now they just need to start focusing on performance/funfactor, which they seem to be taking a first stab at with the Genisis coupe. It will not be an ultimate smash success, but I can guarantee you the follow up to it will be. Congrats to Hyundai/Kia.

They have gotten a lot better, but they still have some wacky management, some low quality cars and sometimes it seems they have their hands in the wrong pockets. I expect a luke-warm welcome to the Borego.

But overall, I’m surprised. With very few exceptions, I would def not buy them over a domestic.
