Rumors suggest that Korean automaker Hyundai and its subsidiary Kia have teamed up with Korean Electric Power Company in order to develop a special EV battery charging system for upcoming EV models.
Details are still scarce, but it is known that Hyundai and its Kia subsidiary will be developing the EV vehicle itself, and their partner Korean Electric Power Company will develop an EV battery charging system.
Last month Hyundai unveiled its i10 Electric prototype city EV at the Frankfurt Auto Show. The i10 Electric is most likely to become the vehicle set to be released as a joint prototype and charger system in August of 2010.
Actual sales of the production version of the EV vehicle will likely begin in 2011.
The i10 Electric utilized a 16 kw-hour lithium-ion battery pack and is capable of traveling up to 100 miles on a single charge. The i10 is also capable of a top speed of 80 mph.
Korean Electric Power Company has also agreed to help with the distribution of the car upon release by likely bundling the EV with its charging system.
