Okay, here’s your call, douche! Hyundai already has a Hybrid on the market in Korea. Truck? They build commercial vans, trucks of varying sizes, buses, and motor coaches. They have have luxury vehicles already, and don’t need a luxury “marque” because they are not ashamed of their name. Any dope can build a concept? Okay, you go for it! Proof of efficiency or success does to come by your version of reality.

Among the many things Americans need to realize. The world does not have to operate by your yard-sticks (or benchmarks), which nowadays are woefully inadequate to measure success on a global scale. All they do is reinforce your own fictitious superiority in your own minds.

Um DrFill you definitely don’t know what you are talking about. Hyundai is right up there in Hybrid Technology and further along about surpassing Toyota’s and Honda’s I was at the Chicago Autoshow a major show and clearly Hyundai’s Hyundai BLUE-WILL hybrid concept to be unveiled in Seoul and a number of Leading Edge Hyundai concepts were unveiled that would put anything GM had to shame. including the volt

Hyundai is third in the world for overall mpg. Not bad, not bad at all. Toyota on the other hand has to include their tundra rust wagon that sucks up fuel. I could see honda taking over the crown in the next 5 years. If Honda sends their diesel technology to the U.S. it will be over toyoda. And this is with the jap government giving millions to toyoda for R & D.
drfilledwithcrap will have to watch honda and hyundai slowly pass toyoda for over all mpg. hyundai already is blowing away toyoda on quality. now mpg will be their next target.

It seems that Hyundai is getting it right and moving up in both sales and market share. Year end projections show them closing with a combined market share of over 7.1% that is incredible growth in a depressed market like ours.

2010 also sees Hyundai’s market position rising even higher, while some stalwarts like Toyota are seeing the exact opposite, depressed and slipping Tundra sales, missing their 200k production mark, and getting trounced by domestic trucks, multiple safety recalls, and looming reliability issues all translate into more negative fall out for this troubled brand.

why are you always bashing Hyundai?
can’t you give them just a little credit for all that they’ve done?
sure maybe in some aspects toyota and honda still dominate hyundai but you’ve got to admit that hyundai has recently been in a rampage of improvements.
can’t you at least give them credit for changing their status from the shit cars of the 1980s to the decent and at par cars in the new millenium? some cars like the genesis have exceeded normal “hyundai-haters” expectations and even changed the way they percieve hyundai as a brand.
gosh man, why are you so bitter about hyundai’s growth.

There is only ONE technology leader in the US Auto market, and it damn sure ain’t Hyundai!

DrFill you have’nt obviously visited a National Autoshow in awhile. I suggest you do. Hyundai was a cheap auto manufacturer in the 1980′s and a fledgling here in the US, but they have drastically change and imprpve not only quality but their technology. The Koreans are a Technological Wunderkind. And if you don’t know this then start getting with the program! You will definitely see them go after their Japanese counterparts.

That Toyota leads in this field is testament to the superiority of their Synergy Drive Hybrid System
Honda was #1 for years, because Toyota actaully makes trucks and heavy-duty SUVs, lowering their fleet average

I don’t consider Hyundai on par with Toyota, or the domestics, as a full-line automaker, until they build trucks, and a luxury division
And competitive hybrids
And sell more than 500k a year………….

Joshy, because “best” is just too subjective. You can’t define “best” with facts in any way. What may be the best burger to you may not be the best burger to me, and we both know that McDonald’s has the cheapest and most purchased burgers in the world, but that doesn’t make their burgers the “best”.

For me, no brand is “best”. I may prefer one over the other, but it simply is not “best”. Instead, it’s “best for me.” Those are very different things.

I admire Hyundai, don’t get me wrong, but I fear that they may be hurting themselves by going for the numbers, like Johnny said. Not even numbers can make something “best”. They can only be “best at (x)” or “best at (y)”, but never “best.” It’s just not attainable, because there will always be someone who disagrees. That’s what competition is all about.

I would say being the “most fuel efficient brand” when you don’t offer any trucks, large SUVs, or work vehicles is kinda like saying you’re the “worlds fastest runner” when you only compete in the 100 meter dash.

I just love it when they take existing cars and slap on a set of skinny tires, re-map the fuel injection and do whatever else possible to eek out an extra mpg or two at the expense of drivability. Then again those fixes are easy… engineering efficiency into the vehicle from the start isn’t.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… designing a vehicle just to generate a number on a test is much like spending 4 years to get some letters behind your name then ending up serving lattes to people with an actual skill.

I feel Hyundai is going to bring in the title of “most confused brand.”

First, they bring you Genesis – a good luxury car at a good price. So Hyundai is trying to move upscale…

…and THEN they tout the Elantra as being, what, $50 cheaper than the bare bones Versa, thereby being the cheapest brand?

And now they are going for fuel efficient title?

I mean, good for Hyundai, really, but it seems to me they are trying to stretch too thin too quickly. It seems like they’re shooting for world domination.

I applaud Hyundai for it’s efforts. In such a short time they’ve become a threat to the Japanese and they are keeping a focus not only fuel efficiency but design and quality. Most importantly, the reference in the article about turbocharging technology, suggests to me that Hyundai may take the route of Audi/VW. With DI and turbocharged engines they could achieve their goals without having to sacrifice on performance. Keep up the good work Hyundai!!!!

Everyone should learn from Hyundai. Yes they were notorious for their poor quality but they learned from their mistakes and looked to improving beyond Toyota and Honda standards. Now they’re considered to be one of the best entry level automaker in terms of quality. GM and Chrysler are like two retarted kids whom you tell them not to touch the stove because they will burn themselves. They go and do it and it hurts them. And you’d think they’d learn their lesson at that point but then a few hours later they go and touch it again.

It pisses me off to know that a relatively new company like Hyundai, which was one of the worst companies in the world, has trumped GM! I think GM needs to be as focused on accomplishing 1 goal at a time just as Hyundai has been doing! If Hyundai and GM keep doing what they’re doing, hyundai will dominate GM to the point where they might not recover!
