There’s been a lot of talk lately about the direction of American car design. Ford is describing the look of its new Fusion, Edge, and Reflex vehicles as “bold” and “American,” and Nissan has also referred to its latest efforts as more American than European. If those vehicles are an example of where American design is headed, then add Hyundai to the list, too. The Korean automaker points to the fact that the new Talus was designed in California, by an American (Joel Piaskowski), and with the U.S. market in mind. In an interview, Piaskowski said he believes that “styling is the ultimate differentiator.” When asked why the Talus was rear-wheel-drive when the company had no such platform, Piaskowski confirmed a RWD architecture is “under development in Korea.”
