I bet the floor mats don’t jam up the brake and accelerator in the Sonata unlike Toyota and the re badged Toyota’s also known as Lexus and if they did I bet the car wouldn’t blown up and disintegrate, which is really pathetic and the funny thing is they apologize for it. What about all the other everyday disintegrating Toyota Wrecks, don’t they count. At the end of the day there is a lot more engineering going into the design and safety of Hyundai’s if anything they are approaching BMW which are designed for driving and wrecking on the autobahn anyway that’s my two cents.

I saw the thing on the road, driven by new owners here in Korea. The thing looks great in person and looks like an AMG car with new grill. I’d Rock it if it had RWD like the Genesis sedan.

If you have such good ideas and a visionary path for Hyundai, why don’t you get a job with Toyota and get them back on top? Why don’t you actually do something? Instead of talking **** about Hyundai all day, Why not take Hyundai out of their misery even faster by joining Toyota. Since you sound so qualified, I’m sure they will hire you on the spot. All you do is run your mouth on this site, even if it’s true or false, their may only be a couple of people that actually agree with your opinion, while many others do not. I just thought of something else, why not target another auto make? Why just Hyundai? Start knocking Mitsubishi or Suzuki, you are always so focused on Hyundai for no apparent reason.

I’m guessing you will give a pussy response to this, I won’t even check back often to read what you wrote.

I don’t think Toyota invented anything. All Toyota has done is create a legacy of reliable products, which got them a tremendously loyal customer base. If the design looks remotely good, die hards will buy them based on the Toyota logo because they feel they can trust the car based on past experiences. There are better cars out there than what Toyota makes in just about every segment, but people are willing to pay the extra dollars for what now amounts to a false feeling of security. Toyota is only going to be able to rely on their reputation for so long before people realize that they no longer make the best or most reliable products available especially for the price. As the former owner of a 1996 Camry and the current owner of a 1999 Camry, I can see glaring problems with the 2007 Camry I sampled. It’s definitely not on par with the previous model’s build quality or, from what I hear, reliability.

They must create new brand, and sell this new sonata as “Lexus ES”.
(And, Lexus ES was originally “Camry prominent” in Japan. Lexus ES is a variant of Camry)

Hyundai brand remain as “middle brand”.
This new sonata sell as New luxury brand’s ‘Lexus ES’.

Dumbest decision is….. Hyundai itself become a upmarket brand.
Traditional hyundai customers want ‘econo car’. not overpriced luxury car.

So i think DrFill made one solid point, Toyota didn’t invent the modern design but they sure as hell invented the “Successful” modern design. Bland as they may appear they look good enough to get people to look at them them they hook people with their drivability. They arent inspired, but they do everything a car is supposed to do without going above and beyond the call. toyota makes the everyday mans car that just drives. This isn’t the best lookin sedan out there, but it’s gimmicky appearance will bring people to the lots. Hyundai has hit the floor running and they are making some good plays, It started with the genesis and now that can only go forward. I’m with Tornado though, my concern is fit and finish. I couldn’t care less what all the consumer reports BS says i got strictly off personal experience, when it comes to any opinion have to make, not just something I’ve read. The genesis is nice but once all is said and done there were a few quirks with the finish that remind you though this car tries to compete with the 50k executive sedans, ur still in a 30k car. But like i said, they can only go forward and they seem to have great direction.

I am interested to see mpg for this car, I could see 35mpg on high way with this engine if it uses a 6 speed because it lighter and more aerodynamic then the Equinox with is the only other car to use Di 4cyl and fusion get 34 with it 2.5 mpi 4 cyl. the v6 will probably be close to or hit 30mpg seeing how the larger 3.8 in the genesis gets 27mpg. hope Chevy get The Di 4 in the Malibu quickly i hope.

I am am kind of scared of Hyundai if they can keep this up.

The previous Sonata came with a 3.3 liter engine with 249 HP, I believe the 3.5 Will have at least 277 like “worst 3″ stated.

Lambda 3.5L engine will debut in the 2010 Kia Sorento. This engine is rated at 277hp and 247lb-ft, so i would asume similar numbers unless drastic changes for fuel economy.

I hope this new engine is making more than 250hp. Everything about this car looks impressive, however based on the info from Leftlane about powertrain, I would be very disapointed if the new 3.5 V6 is making only 250hp. The current 3.3 is making 249hp. So a bigger motor with only a 1hp gain in power would be laughable. But Leftlanes info has not been up to date as it should be, these pics that left lane posted of the new Sonata have already been out on the net almost 2 weeks before leftlane posted them, so these pics are old news to me. I like Hyundai its doing very well, but I would not buy this car knowing its built in Alabama. Mercedes builds an SUV in Alabama and its rated as one of the worst and most unreliable vehicles on the market! As for power, if Hyundai wants to compete with the V6 altima, Mazda 6, or the Accord V6, it better offer atleast 280hp to get people attention. I drove the 270hp V6 Camry with the 6speed and its a very fast sedan. Hyundai better add more power if they want to interest the public.

i’m glad to see that people actually know the roots of lexus and toyota. does anyone remember the corolla of the late 1980’s. it was a piece of junk that barely got over 60mph. hyundai for the past 15 years has not produced a car like the old corolla. hyundai did have the excel which was jointly build with mitsbishi and that was junk. but, today and for the past 10 years hyundai has never build a car as bad as the old corolla or todays yaris. the yaris looks like it has card board for interior roof panels. \

the alabama hyundai plant is going to go on overtime to keep up with demand for the new sonata.

drfill, in the world of automobile design, lexus/toyota was considered(still is to european designers) level of kia/hyundai. No automobile designers consider them to be a true designed car, so plz dont say something like this company copied toyota, that company copied lexus, when lexus/toyota was the first japanese company to knock off mercedes design to create something called lexus in the 90s. Just like how much people respect toyota/lexus now, give hyundai/kia their chance. they may be the next lexus/toyota.

Toyota is not a some great company out for the people, they disabled the air bag shut off on the tundra as a recall so they would not have to install seats anchors in there cars. there just a company out there to make money and they do it well now that there starting to cut quality because they built a name and build boring, and will probably start losing more and more of the market if they don’t stop there current trend.
Hyundai is not a great, but they making cars as reliable as Toyota for less with more futures (and a sports car). I see Hyundai trying to gradually become a luxury brand and KIA the mainstream. they do have some design ideas from other companies but they probably took it from some where else to. the new sonata looks fairly sporty and will probably be superior to the current Camry in most aspects.

This isn’t bad at all. A lot of design cues even in the interior, from Mazda, Infiniti, to even Volvo but overall they were able to make a better looking family car than both the Camry and Accord. Problem is, when it comes to family cars people tend to settle for the most reliable and conservative (image-wise) so they’ll probably stick with the japs.

My 2002 RAV4 had this exact problem. I no longer have any confidence in the car and cannot get rid of it fast enough. Thank you so much for publishing this article and giving us a voice.

Hopefully Toyota will do the right thing and recall these cars before someone dies.

You should read today’s New York Times article on how Toyota tried to deliberately not warn their customers of the transmission glitch which is a safety issue. It’s clear that Toyota has gotten too arrogant and even brash thinking they could play hardball with their customers. Perhaps Toyota is not only becoming complacent, but so greedy to save a few bucks at the expense of their loyal customers.

toyota has been renting cars for years now. the last couple of cars i rented was a matrix and a camry. the matrix brakes were making noise and the camry was like a old chevy.
