Hyundai to drop 2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring pricing by $1,800

08/14/2009, 12:59 PM

By Drew Johnson

Most vehicles get incrementally more expensive as the model years roll on, but Hyundai will be reversing that trend with its 2010 Elantra Touring. In fact, Hyundai will be knocking off a significant $1,800 from the base price of the Elantra Touring for the 2010 model year.

The 2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring – which is only available in one trim level – lists from $18,520. However, Hyundai will be breaking the Elantra Touring line into three trim levels for the 2010 model year, with the most moderately priced version listing from $16,715.

For that price of entry, you can take home the 2010 Elantra Touring GLS five-speed model. Adding a four-speed automatic bumps the GLS’ price by $1,200, totaling $17,915. Standard GLS features include electronic stability control, four-wheel disc brakes and an XM Satellite radio with USB and iPod connectivity.

For 2010, the SE model will be the top billing in the Elantra Touring lineup. The 2010 SE model can be had with a five-speed manual ($18,995) or a four-speed automatic ($19,995). Standard equipment on the SE model will include a power sunroof, heated seats, a leather steering wheel, a B&M shifter (manual model) and 17-inch wheels.

The 2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring will hit dealers in the coming weeks.

I don’t think Hyundai should pay the bill for this ad since the Author included a competitor’s name as a typo: “Ford 2010,”.

Why does everyone hate the word wagon so much?

This car is known as the C30w in the rest of the world for those of you living under a rock. If you read the road tests, this isn’t actually a sporty tourer that Hyundai tries to pass it off as, but it is a very respectable family run-about with room in the trunk for all your junk. Wrong product positioning on Hyundai’s part, but if you take it for what it is (small non-luxury wagon), its not a bad product.

I love this car, and if my wife’s car were to have significant issues we would seriously consider buying the Elantra Touring. Nice to know they are coming out with a more “base” model version.

@ JohnnyC… Wagon in many people’s minds triggers images of the late 80s and early 90s land boats to the likes of Chevy Caprice, Olds Cutlass….etc. Modern day “sport wagons” (or sportwagen if you’re german)…. are far removed from the land yachts of yore. Since Hyundai isn’t German and can’t pull off the “sportwagen” name, they went for the next best thing: Touring. It should trigger images of peaceful cross country road trips, almost a cruise but also have all your junk right there in your massive wagon trunk.

Yeah wagons need to make a comeback. I’m in europe for 6 months and I have yet to see a sedan version of an S4 or RS4. And I’ve seen them daily. Why can’t americans get on the wagon… bandwagon.

The Elantra Tourind is one great car. Its has the looks and safey of the V40 for 1/3 less price. It actually drives better then a Volvo V40 and gets better mpg with double the volvo warranty. Don’t know why they are lowering the price. Dealers are having a hard time keeping them in stock now.

alsvw- Safety of the V40 (now it’s called the V50)? Certainly not.
In this neck of the woods, there are TONS of Volvo’s and Subies. I would bet this station wagon drives pretty well… but the Volvo estates drive very well.

if you want more cargo space, shipping surfing board & folded bicycle, elantra touring is a good choice.

daiso……..The Lada Riva was named car of the year in Russia, doesn’t make it a good car!! You have to look at the market its in, and In the more developed markets its only average.

Also safety is relative, the NCAP ratings are specific to the group that the car is in. Comparing NCAP’s of a compact to an entry Luxury is not the same thing. The standards are higher…The Smart car got great ratings, but crash it into a Q7 and see where your 5 stars gets you!!

crash a q7 into a volvo v50 and see what happens. Yes, bigger cars will put more damage on smaller cars. Believe it or not, the elantral touring is one nice car. Great mpg, interior, and ride all for less money then other sport wagons. Sure the VW Jetta wagon is also great. But, with the same option it is $10,000 more then the Hyundai.

Re Elantra Touring “Hitting the Dealers”. We went looking for one at the local Hyundai store in Natick MA and they didn’t have ANY, zero, zippo inventory.

To top that the sales crew was adding $1700 worth “market value” pricing to their stickers. Real bright bunch in this economy. No wonder there were many more sales people in the showroom than customers.

The equipment/options list on this vehicle is the same as many cars, suvs, wagons that sell for twice as much.

This is also a Hyundai, now ranked with Toyota and Honda, as the best manufactured vehicles on the planet by JDPower, Consumer Reports, etc.

Why do dumb dumbs buy ANYTHING made in Europe? To help the sales people stuck in the stores selling them. It sure isn’t quality, safety or value.
