As previously reported, the Hyundai Tiburon will go to the sharks after 2008, but a new report suggests that Hyundai won’t be without a front-wheel drive sports coupe for long. Hyundai will unveil a new model at next-year’s Frankfurt Motor Show that will take the place of the aging Tiburon.
It remains unclear what nameplate the new coupe will wear, but the Tiburon replacement will be heavily inspired by the Veloster concept, according to 4Car.
The new coupe will ride on the Hyundai i30’s platform and should be comparable in size to the last generation Toyota Celica. That places the new car slightly below the upcoming Kia Coupe and Genesis Coupe in overall size.
Hyundai has yet to reveal what powertrains will be offered in the new coupe, but an efficient four-cylinder will undoubtedly be part of the equation.
The new coupe should hit the market shortly after its September 2009 unveiling.
