Hyundai says that its 2012 Sonata sedan will be the EPA’s most fuel-thrifty sedan thanks to revised fuel economy ratings for the new model year.

The volume-leader naturally-aspirated Sonata’s 2.4-liter four-cylinder goes from 22 to 24 mpg in the city, which combines with an unchanged 35 mpg highway rating to give it an improved 28 mpg combined (up from 26 mpg).

Meanwhile, the 2.0-liter turbocharged Sonata will now be rated at 34 mpg on the highway, a 1 mpg increase from before. Its city figure of 22 mpg and combined figure of 26 mpg are unchanged, however.

The Sonata Hybrid’s 40 mpg rating is unchanged.

In addition, the Sonata gains standard Blue Link emergency and infotainment capability on all models, a new panoramic moonroof as standard on uplevel Sonata Limiteds and a revised navigation software and interface with new HD Radio capability.

Hyundai says that 2012 Sonatas should be arriving on dealer lots later this month.
