Hyundai Veloster concept

04/06/2007, 1:30 PM

By admin

Hyundai used the 2007 Seoul Motor Show to reveal a new coupe concept called the Veloster. The name is a compound of velocity and roadster. It sports a number of high-tech features, including a glass roof.

“With Veloster, we wanted to try something really different. We’re keenly aware that we need radically new products for the Y-generation, the first-time twenties something buyer,” said Oh Suk-Geun, Hyundai’s vice president of design. “This is really a bold new direction,” he added.

Come on Kafkef. You know you’re a closet SantaFe lover. Well at least it’s got the iPod adapter built in right in the console. That’ll be nice 10 years from know when it’s completely useless.

Anyone else tired of seeing concepts that’ll never turn into real production vehicles? Don’t get me wrong, this looks great, but I doubt we’ll see something even close to it on the road a couple of years from now. All auto makers should focus on building real vehicles instead of wasting time with projects like these…unless they’re committed to building them, of course.

Good looking, but you could hide an 18 wheeler in this car’s blindspot.

The inside of that thing looks like a retro 50’s diner. Fonzie would feel right at hom in it.
.
Otherwise, cool exterior.

56oval – actually i’m a bmw guy. this concept is the only hyundai/kia/etc that i have ever liked. even though the interior is a bit weird no one can deny it is a huge step forward for hyundai.

i just think its going to be the next gen tiburon. looking at it, it seems to be about what hyundai needs to actually make first-time 20-something buyers look at their products. also, if they can put that v6 in there, that would be a quick little car. just a thought. build it, i’d definitely look at it.

With a name like Veloster, I was half expecting to see a Miata-fighting roadster. How about that Hyundai??

PrimeGTP, 1c3d0g, I agree. It’s difficult to be enthused about a car that we’ll never see on the road, much less get to drive.

Not very impressive overall but it does remind me of the 1970 Honda Z, however (but that was a gas miser two-seater microcar with a 2-cylinder motorcycle engine)

Unless it weighs 2300lbs or less, it had better be rear wheel drive considering it _looks_ like it has sporting intentions.

Like it all up to the B pillar. Fix the rear-end, and it could prove interesting.

Look, the Kia Soul was thought of a”they’ll never make it” type of concept, last year, now, Kia says it is a go “as-is”(interior may be slightly different)…for 2008!
V6 or I-4 .Priced to compete with Scion stuff.
With the Lancer out, Scion tC, and many others, they need something new.
Never say never.

Why would the Scion tC merit something new from Hyundai? It’s been out for a few years now.. and what does the Lancer have to do with coupes or roadsters?

If I were to guess I would say that they’re connected because they’re all Y group cars, and because they’re meant to apeal ot the same people…but who knows?
