it’s going to be a Sonata-based coupe. Expect a 3.3L V6 RWD 230hp range (maybe supercharged option) and look very similar to the latest aston martin coupe.

if they molded the tiburon into a “halo” car, then everyone would buy one.

this whole “why did you buy a hyundai” thing is just called ignorance at this point.

I’ve heard from a couple of Saturn dealerships saying that there tops leak badly and that shortages out the stereo, the fix? a baggy around the stereo- they don’t fix the leak, Hyundai, you better build a good halo car- one thats good from the start with a couple good trannys (auto and man), unlike the Mazda RX-8, with one good one, and designed in a futuristic and stylish (ergo non-ford and Toyota) with the 3.8 under the hood and at around 23k, I’ll be there.

During the recent JD Powers’ Polls, Hyundai ranked near the top in initial quality.

Make it a drop-top roadster, lightweight, mid-engined, and with a great powertrain – and I *might* consider it.

BTW, I drive a Toyota MR2 Spyder now.

Not Correct Asher… Just look at the original Ford Mustang, 240z, 1st Gen Rx7 and the Miata. All inxepensive sports cars that generated tremendous buzz and big sales. If you build a great looking, great driving, great value sportscar people will buy it in droves and you’ll get the “Halo Effect”.

Halo cars are halo cars because they are harder to get for the normal person. A $25,000 halo car is just a sports car that everyone can afford. It’s not going to boost sales anywhere.

Brand loyalty is for retards. That is the reson for GM still being in business. If a company build a great car buy from them. If they don’t don’t. I am a huge fan of VW, but the MK IV sucked so when I bought a new car, I went with a Focus. I still love VWs, but I won’t buy them unless the MKV ups the quality/reliablity.

Hyundai has come a very long way in the last few years. They have certainly build a decent reputaion of reliablity. Unfortunately for them, that rep has been built with souless cars. Keeping with the amount of car Hyundai gives you for the money (ie: Sonata) this could be very interesting. This could be a 25K car that could possibly run with around 30K crowd. I agree that FWD would be a very dumb move. RWD would be cool, but I see AWD as the most fitting. Hyundai has somewhat of a history in the WRC and I would love to see a competitor to not just the WRX, but the WRX STi for 25K. Plus, with the trends amongst yourg people (which this car will have to be marketed to) and performance cars right now, a cheap AWD turbo car would defintely sell.

Well, if they are wanting something to target the sports car market, they need to do rear/all wheel drive.

I see them with 2 options.
1) RWD as a sports car, similar to the Z, ect.
2) AWD to compete with the WRX/STi/Evo.

If they go front wheel drive, they’ll just screw themselves, much like they did with the Tiburon. A Halo car (IMO) needs to be a cost be dammed vehicle, and just be built for the purpose.

if we didnt’ live in a world of boring camrys and civics, then a $25,000 car would never be a halo car.
The Solstice and Sky are very nice cars for the price but are not “halo cars.” Those two are what all cars should be, appealing; something that you like to see and buy because it says something, not something that you bought because it was the right price. Is it just me or shouldn’t all cars look decent?
However, a “Halo car” is the company and designer’s complete visioin of an extroidinary car come to fruition.
Any case, i hope Hyundai makes an amazing and affordable car. We need more of these so companies get the picture.
