This current generation of the 3 series has been the biggest disappointment from BMW. They improved everything else but exterior styling takes a major leap backward. Granted there aren’t too many convertible buyers out there but still to miss something as important as safety is very disappointing.

i for one am dissapointed th bmw did so bad, i would almost expect it from the g6 but its a huge letdown on the almighty cant ever make a bad product bmw.

well just for him making gm and especially himself look bad. bmw was scored marginal which is better than the g6 but the g6 was far below all cars tested here.

dont like convertables anyways, but they are still safer than a motorcycle. but given the choice i would rather have the wind in my face on a mortorcycle than a yuppite mobile.

I am exceedingly disappointed in the 3 Series demonstrating sub-par safety. Not acceptable for an automobile in its price range—not acceptable at all, and takes BMW a notch or two down in my eyes. I don’t think the C6 should have ever been made into a convertible to being with.

Nice demo vid for the Eos system, but nothing protects your head or shoulders. It just keeps the car from collapsing around you. Any debris or objects on the road thats aimed at your head, and you kaput. also if you happen to flip on another vehicle your dead.

I hear what they are saying, my first B5 A4 was hit from the side by a truck at 10-15mph and the entire rear passenger side door collapsed. If anyone had been sitting there, they would have had severe head trauma and probably a broken leg. Ins totalled the car since it bent the frame too. VAG really needs to work on side impact protection.

BMW has been selling factory droptop 3-series for about 20 years now.. but this is the first factory hardtop convertible.. wonder if that had anything to do with it?

Not to mention the price premium. GM is *NOT* excused at all for such a poor performance from the G6 vert, but I imagine that it should be easily fixable since the coupe and sedan get very good safety ratings.

BMW, though…for the money, I expected more.

Domestic Basher here:
BMW realized that by making the car fast and maneuverable you can avoid such silly accidents. Therefore safety is almost not needed because the BMW driver is superior. The G6 tried to follow in the BMW’s footsteps but failed miserably dut to its inherent domestic frailty and inferior copycat skill

All of the above was sarcastic.
BMW should be flayed for selling such a poor crash worthy car. Its not like they haven’t been selling droptop 3′s for the last 30 years or anything.

The convertible Sebring is goodlooking. The sedan should be scrapped. A more compact 300C-based sedan should be instituted in its place.

I wonder if that seat problem with the G6 was a build problem specific to that vehicle or was it repeated in subsequent tests?

The platform is only a starting point for vehicle designs. Everything else you add to the body (drivetrain, suspension settings, interior, body panels, bumpers, active safety systems, etc…) will have a greater impact on overall safety. Saab does very comprehensive safety testing on their vehicles, which probably explains their top performance in this test and the huge difference between the 9^3 and the G6.

sebring looks gr8 with the top dwn, but its sedan looks fugly. props to saab and especially volvo and its reputation for safety. ehh g6 was garbage anyways. look out for whiplash protection!

I’d suspect the next A4 vert to be significantly improved. Kudos to Saab and Volvo on their achievments. And especially Kudos to Mitsubishi and Chrysler. Mitsu can use all the good news they can get and it would be a good assumption that that Mercedes can take some credit for the Sebing scores.

That G6 though, man that was ugly. And I thought the Aveo was bad.
