June was a tail of two stories, at least as far as the auto industry's best-sellers are concerned.

At the top of the chart, like usual, was the Ford F-Series, which bested bowtie rival Chevrolet Silverado by an impressive 21,500 units.

But from there, the chart moved straight into Japanese-brand sedan territory, with only the Chevrolet Malibu and Ford Fusion waving the flag for Detroit. With over 213,000 sold so far this year, the Toyota Camry has a commanding first place lead among passenger cars over next-best Honda Civic (162,582).

The only SUV or crossover to poke its way into the top 10 last month was the Ford Escape. Since a redesigned Escape formally went on sale last month, it's safe to assume that June's figures included both the all-new 2013 and the outgoing 2012. The old Escape was a fleet-heavy model, and while Ford promises that the new car will be more popular with consumers, we've already spotted several 2013s on rental car lots.

If you're interested in on-the-bubble cars, here are those models that just barely missed out: The Honda CR-V (23,282), Nissan Altima (21,812), Ford Focus (21,186) and Hyundai Sonata (20,931) and Chevrolet Equinox (20,793). The best-selling European-badged car last month was the Volkswagen Jetta (13,604 including the SportWagen).

Don't forget to check out our story detailing June's overall sales figures, which include first-half sales for the entire industry.
