Sometimes reading old blog posts or magazine articles can be a humorous experience. Sometimes rumors just never materialize. Other times, they turn out to be wildly inaccurate. But there are also those predictions that turn out to be dead accurate. Those are the kind of stories we try to find at Leftlane. One such story we feel we must draw attention to is a magazine scan from October of what is purportedly the new 2007 BMW 3-Series Coupe. When the image first surfaced, few believed BMW would take such a radical departure from the sedan’s taillight design. Yet five months later, it appears that’s exactly what has happened. While the E92 coupe has yet to be officially unveiled, spy photographers have pretty much confirmed how it will look. A similar story can be told about the Dodge Challenger Concept. More images and commentary after the jump…
In October, we published this scan from a German magazine, purportedly showing how the new 3-Series coupe would look. One LLN reader wrote, “that rear angle view is not going to happen. there is absoulutely no way.”
But we couldn’t help being fascinated by it. It looked too good to be the product of a journalist’s imagination. And in the end, it looks like the optimists were right.

Months later, the images like the ones below surfaced online. They confirmed the 3er would get new taillights, and the rest of the body and lights matched the artist’s drawing perfectly.

Just recently, the cover was blown and AutoCar published a shot of the turbo 3-Series coupe. The tailpipes are placed differently because the car has a sport kit, but the rest is the same.

Which brings us to the Dodge Challenger Concept, a car so shocking it was hard to believe it was real.
When these images first appeared in December, there was a great deal of doubt among auto enthusiasts about them. We weren’t even sure if the images were real.

“These pics look SO FAKE,” wrote one reader.
“Nice but I smell a fake,” wrote another.
“They look fake.”
Well, January 7th rolled around, and the rest is history…

I don’t see what was considered so radical about the BMW taillights. BMW has used this shape before, it’s just upside down now.

Speaking of fake, I have a strong propensity for fake boobies.

The BMW is real and looks good once the covers come off.
Big round balls with cut and stitch lines, the ability to dislocate, and reduce muscle strength, are not pleasant to see once the covers come off. Thank you.

I suppose this is in response to argument brewing between posters about the storage of Chrysler cars? Nice.

hillarious, thats my quote. i honestlly did not think the E92 would be so boring in its taillights. nor did i think it would take the hotdog taillight approach. i may have been thinking of the distaste i had for the headline from this previous rendering also from auto bild: http://www.leftlanenews.com/2005/10/03/new-video-shows-next-gen-bmw-3-series-coupe/
i am curious at how auto bild got such a dead on mockup if it was a mockup at all. the red/pink in the mockup is also profoundly bad in color. i remember being very excited to see how handsome the rear in black turned out to be in the spy shot while the classic blue will no doubt give a handsome rear.
i can not wait until the E92 is in full form. this may be the most amusing post ever put out by leftlanenews.

Nice ass. But a bit last generation Mercedes CLK-ish with the taillights, at least in the top picture. I don’t mean that in a bad way or anything, though.
