Infiniti’s EMERG-E concept car has made its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show. The EMERG-E joins a growing number of eco-minded luxury super cars, including the Acura NSX and Lexus LF-LC.
The EMERG-E is the first Infiniti ever to utilize a plug-in electric drivetrain paired with a range-extending internal combustion engine, but that’s hardly the car’s most interesting point. The EMERG-E plug-in features a mid-engine setup, with a pair of electric motors providing 402 horsepower.
Infiniti says the EMERG-E can accelerate from 0-60 in just 4 seconds, with the sprint to 130mph taking 30 seconds. A lithium-ion battery pack provides an all-electric range of 30 miles, with a three-cylinder gas engine providing a total range of 300 miles.
The EMERG-E features a “fresh expression” of Infiniti’s design language, with clear influence from the Essence concept car. However, the EMERG-E’s mid-engine setup allows for a much more unique overall look.
The EMERG-E concept features a futuristic interior that is setup in a right hand drive configuration. The instrument cluster is made up of digital gauges, and has a function that allows the driver time track runs. A fuel gauge and an electricity gauge sit side by side.
Infiniti has yet to announce if the EMERG-E will eventually make production, the Japanese automaker seem determined to produce some kind of performance halo car.
