Infiniti EX Concept

03/28/2007, 12:00 AM

By admin

Nissan will showcase the Infiniti EX Concept at the New York Auto Show April 6th – 15th. The Japanese automaker describes the EX as “part futuristic concept car, part near-production vehicle.”

The EX features a coupe-inspired design, luxurious interior and unique liquid crystal glass roof that can change from transparency to translucent.

A production vehicle derived from the concept will be in showrooms by the end of the year, Nissan says. “In reality, the EX Concept is a very real preview of an all-new luxury crossover that’s inspired by coupe design, which is set to arrive at Infiniti retailers nationwide by the end of calendar year 2007.”

Anticipated to be available on the production version as “world’s first technologies,” the EX Concept showcases two innovative features: Around View Monitor (AVM) and Lane Departure Prevention (LDP).

The Around View Monitor system utilizes front, side and rear-mounted cameras to help reduce the blind spots when parking, while the Lane Departure Prevention system takes Infiniti’s currently available Lane Departure Warning System into a new dimension of safety by actively using the VDC system to help assist the driver in maintaining lane position if they inadvertently start to drift out of the lane.

It’s nice, but MAN am I tired of SUVs and Crossovers. WE HAVE ENOUGH CHOICES SO STOP GIVING US MORE. But yeah, one of the nicer ones for sure.

G35 Wagon? G37 Wagon?
Well, it’ll probably work. So is this the Infiniti version of that hideous upcoming Nissan Rogue? If it is, then BRAVO! because Nissan turned an ugly duckling into a… the EX.

Exactly. The FX looks more cutting edge than this.

This looks like they took a FX and G35ized it. Then toned it down a notch.

I’d rather see the FX continue or the a G-series wagon, but this is what people are buying (Lexus RX, Highlander, MDX, Edge, etc). Not what enthusiasts want.

Although I bet it will sell well as they do not have a SUV smaller than the FX right now.

This would be cool if this were priced below the FX. Like BMW’s X3,X5 or Acura’s RDX,MDX.
The QX is totally superfluous now.

To all those mis-informed people:

1. The EX it not replacing the FX. The FX is getting larger and will add a third row seat to compete with the MDX, X5, XC90, Q7, etc.

2. The EX and Rogue have absolutely nothing in common. The Rogue is FWD/AWD based on the FF chassis which it shares with the Altima, Maxima, Murano, etc. The EX is RWD/AWD based on the FM chassis which it shares with the G, FX, M, and 350Z. They are two totally different vehicles.

3. To all of those crybabies complaining about more crossovers, tough cookies. Deal with it! Acura RDX, Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLK, Infiniti EX35, Volvo XC60, Cadillac BRX, Saab 9-4x, Volkswagen Tiguan, and Land Rover LR2. They are already here or coming soon to a dealer near you.

4. If you don’t like what is happening in this marketplace, then don’t buy them, no one cares. These companies will have plenty of people who will buy. You won’ t be missed. Reality bites.

5. Infiniti wants to be a Tier-1 company and they need to compete in every segment point-for-point with BMW and Mercedes-Benz, period.

But I do think that the Rogue and new Altima Coupe will be good sellers for Nissan.

DR. ZHIVAGO, I agree with you completely. I wouldn’t have put it so harshly, but I do agree with you. The Rogue and the EX are completely different and built on different platform. The only commonality the two may share would be the 3.5VQ V6. Also the market is hot right now for crossover vehicles and Infiniti would be a fool not to cut into a piece of that pie. With all that said. I think the EX looks great and think it will do even better in sales.

Infiniti doesn’t need another cross over. They need a real suv. The QX Armada crap needs to go. The vehicle is fine it just needs a major redesign. It looks like somebody’s nightmare right now.

I hate how they market “crossover.” I’ve never driven a “crossover” that didn’t resemble an SUV.. in fact, the main “crossover” I’ve had the time to sample much of (Equinox) handles like a brick.

dr. z actually your right about everything except the part about the fx adopting a third seat it wont soley for the purpose that the qx exists and that the sole intentions of this vehicle are for sport and not cargo/off road.
but good write up and i just wanted to say that this is one sexy suv and that compared to the cars in its class it kicks ass. the current x3, rx, rdx are garbage compared to this. it will kill them in nearly every apsect: power, handling, braking, LOOKS, price, etc except for maybe cargo, which again who cares. you don’t purchase one of these cars if your having a lot of kids and **** to carry. this will be the leader in its class.

as to the comment about the qx56 getting redesigned. why. it looks really nice, i love the styling and it still looks fresh compared to the escalade which is already plaid out and the navigator which should just hide because its hideous. the only thing i recomend for this truck to truly rise to the next level is switch from a body on frame structure to unibody a la mb gl450 where it could really tackle the luxury suv market against that, the range rover, and audi q7. that would be a smart move and allow them to incorporate more of the fx styling cues and power/handling characteristics. the qx doesnt need to be the major hauler. if you want that you should get a nissan armada

“I never saw the point of buying a tall boxy vehicle if you only have 0-2 kids.”

Because you have more space in an SUV dude. What’s the point of even buying a sedan at all? You get more space in an SUV.

Sedan = condo
SUV = house
