2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible revealed in LA

After several months of teaser photos, Infiniti fully unveiled its 2009 G37 Convertible at the Los Angeles auto show. Based on the popular G37 Coupe, the drop-top model features a folding metal roof and unique interior treatment. It marks Infiniti’s first endeavor into the convertible market.

The G37 Convertible will feature a three-piece hardtop, to keep a coupe-like roofline, the automaker says. So far, the only image of the car shows it with the top down, so it remains to be seen how much of the coupe’s distinctive roofline gets carried over to the convertible.

The G37 convertible will mark the first Infiniti drop top since the M30 convertible – which was discontinued in 1992 and made famous by the movie Three Kings — and will inevitably lead to the question ‘Does Lexus make this model?’

As expected, the car will share the same 3.7L V6 used in the G37 coupe, delivering 328 horsepower. The upgrades for 2009 across the line will also include a new optional 7-speed automatic transmission, an optional sport brake package, new design 18-inch wheels and standard Scratch Shield paint.

Wow … talk about copycat to the SC430. I really don’t like the car with the hardtop up. Car looks acceptable with the top down, however.

I still wouldn’t drive one for that kinda $$$. So if the G37 coupe is around $40k, I would guess it would be a $3-4k premium to get into a ‘vert? (I haven’t seen official MSRP pricing anywhere … but I haven’t looked that hard). Not worth it. $44k is bmw 328i ‘vert territory. I’ll sacrifice the HP for a more overall refined vehicle — and I prefer japanese cars over german vehicles 99% of the time … (Never test drove either car … but I would take a proven track record over an unknown, untested vehicle)

The G35 was uber-sexy, so surely a convertible version of its replacement should make me feel that my ‘04 3-series convertible looks dated and old hat. Instead I can honestly say that I wouldn’t want to trade for this, there’s not one thing about it which strikes me as an improvement.

This is a girl’s car….a disaster of a refresh. The original G35 was pretty progressive, but what a panty-waist second generation effort. Yuck.

The Scratch Shield paint is a great feature. It’s just too bad they haven’t come up with a similar process for the interior. Maybe they could call it Pantie Shield because odds are you’re never going to see a man behind the wheel unless he’s wearing them as well.

this car would be MUCH classier with a soft-top… they should have went that route.
but with the top down it is pure perfection… take note lexus, this is why your key demographic will all die in the next 5 years.

Yeah the soft top would of been better.
2+2 retractable convertibles dont do it for me.
Too many part lines and the roof line isnt graceful at all.

I agree that at first glance the top-up G37 resembles a slightly longer, leaner Lexus SC430.. not necessarily a good thing.. but it is 10x better looking than the new Lexus IS top-up! Too bad Lexus couldn’t have copied itself.

Well I have to give it to Infiniti. I actually think this looks great, and its about time they get a convertible in their lineup! Will there be a soft top?
