With its G35 range, Infiniti offered a coupe and sedan, but never a convertible. But two years after the G37 replaced the aging '35, Infiniti finally decided to add a drop-top to the mix.

Introduced at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show, the G37 Convertible is new for the 2009 model year onward. The car is the first Infiniti convertible since the M30 convertible -- which was discontinued in 1992 and made famous by the movie Three Kings -- and will inevitably lead to the question 'Does Lexus make this model?'
The G37 Convertible -- with automatic transmission -- lists from $43,850. Those wanting to shift their own gears will have to pony up another $50 for a manual transmission. Some may find it strange to pay more for a manual gearbox but 6MT kit also includes a Sport Package. The sport package features add enhanced power seats, aluminum foot pedals, and a sport front fascia. The automatic version has a fuel economy of 17/25 while the 6MT package losses 1 MPG in both city and freeway driving. Bluetooth, advanced climate control, a Bose Open Air radio, and iPod connection are all available ala cart.
As with most premium rides, there are plenty of option packages to add on, but the G37 Convertible's price tag fares well against the $44,550 base price of the BMW 328i convertible. Per the industry trend, the G37 Convertible features a three-piece retractable hardtop, retaining the two-door's coupe-like roofline. The retractable hardtop also gives the G37 Convertible a little more cold weather credibility.
The rear wheel drive only Convertible uses the same 3.7L V6 used in the G37 coupe, delivering 325 horsepower and 267 ft-lbs of torque. Like other Infiniti engines this V6 features VVEL (Variable Valve Event and Lift) technology that increases fuel economy and performance. The upgrades for 2009 onward across the line also include a new optional 7-speed automatic transmission, an optional sport brake package, new design 18-inch wheels and standard Scratch Shield paint.
