Infiniti hopes zero-percent financing will spur sales

11/06/2008, 2:20 AM

By Nick Aziz

Infiniti has launched its annual Limited Engagement Winter Event a month ahead of schedule in an attempt to boost demand for its luxury offerings. Like all major automakers, Infiniti’s sales have been impacted by the global financial downturn. At the center of the program is a zero percent financing offer on all models.

Zero percent financing is available for 36 months on all 2008 models. A number of cash discounts are also being offered for purchases and leases across the board. During the Limited Engagement Winter Event, customers can lease the 2008 Infiniti G Sedan for $349 per month and the 2008 Infiniti G Coupe or Infiniti EX for $399 monthly, the company noted.

“We know there is still a demand for the luxury and performance of Infiniti automobiles, but with the negative consumer news of late, consumer perception is there’s no financing available,” said Ben Poore, vice president of marketing for Infiniti. ”With Infiniti’s Limited Engagement Winter Event, we’re spreading the word that Infiniti has the cars buyers want, with the financing and lease options they need.”

When I read this “zero %” stuff, a person like me who hates payments and buys everything cash (including my house) wants to know what the immediate price reduction is. You know … “0% for 3 years, or $3,500 cash back.”

You can ask why I would do that over paying 0% for 36 months? Basically to get Nissan’s loan, I need to provide info to Nissan that I prefer not to provide to anyone, and especially not to automotive marketing whores amongst others. I prefer my privacy.

Infiniti makes a decent automobile, but the American consumer is more of a wait-n-see buyer now with the holidays upon us, and emanate layouts in every business. It will take more than zero percent to get sales moving again—it will take consumer confidence in the economy.

Wow –a great deal. Too bad I didn’t wait for this to happen. But the time I’ve spent in my car makes up for the couple grand I could have saved from the incentive …

Infiniti makes a great car. Sit in one and test drive it. You won’t be disappointed.
