2011 Infiniti M: production car spotted

09/17/2009, 3:30 PM

By Nick Aziz

Infiniti may have “revealed” the new M in 3D virtual reality earlier this year, but never mind that, we have the real thing! Our spies unexpectedly stumbled upon two pre-production testers on Thursday. No clay models here — these were as real as it gets. Sporting cues from the Essence Concept, nothing is left to the imagination with this test car as only a few poorly placed pieces of tape cover the badges.

Infiniti staged an early unveiling of its 2011 M luxury sedan at the 59th Annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August. Because a pre-production prototype was not yet been built, Infiniti took advantage of a new video-mapping projection technology to illuminate the surface of a clay model with what appeared to be the M’s finished sheet metal. The automaker also released a handful of computer-generated images of the car.

The redesigned model is expected to go on sale in spring 2010 in two flavors: the six-cylinder M37, and the eight-cylinder M56. This third-generation M will be the first to be sold across all of Infiniti’s 32 markets around the world, including Western Europe.

Although final specs have not been disclosed, the M56 is expected to offer more than 400 horsepower. Meanwhile, the M37 will likely have a similar horsepower figure to the G37, which delivers 330 horsepower. espite improved performance from the new engine lineup, fuel consumption will be reduced, Infiniti says.

The exterior has a new look with a low front end and deeply sculpted fenders inspired by the Infiniti Essence concept car. The interior is highlighted by better materials, an advanced climate control system, and superior audio.

The car features a number of new technologies, including a system designed to help alert the driver if another vehicle is detected in an adjacent lane during an intended lane change. In such an instance, the car will reportedly ‘help’ steer itself back into the original lane of travel.

Looking forward to the new Cadillac XTS. That should be a hot car. Cadillac quality, dependibility and reliabilty all rolled up in a gorgeous, well built package that will sell to hundreds of thousands of waiting buyers.

@NMOFGM: In addition to not thinking before you speak, you also do not know anything beyond GM, for if you did, your comment would have been more relevant if you had mentioned the CTS-V in regards to this car. The M does not compete with the upcoming XTS. The XTS is meant to go after the 7, S, A8, and XJ. Get your facts straight and then you can speak. Anyhow this car is stunning and a prefect redesign for an already stunning car. A force to be reckon with. Can’t wait to see it in person.

No Infiniti, including the M is the same level as a CTS-V jacka$$. This lame POS competes with the Buick Lacrosse (and loses) like I said.

Just pointing out that the slueths at LLN might obtain some pics of a real car like the XTS soon. That’s something worth looking forward to rather than wasting bandwidth on a POS sushimobile.

@NMOFGM: It is confirmed. You are crazy. To compare the M to the Lacrosse is insane. The M or any other Infiniti is far more luxurious than a Buick can ever be. Hell with your thinking, GM should just sell ONLY Buicks. You obviously think that Buicks are more of a luxury car than a Cadillac and a better value than a Chevy. You probably think that Buicks are more professional grade than GMC. Just face it, Buick is a third-rate near luxury brand and will forever remain that way.

This Infiniti is much better looking and way more luxurious than any Buick.

Anyone who thinks that Buick competes with Infiniti, needs to stick to Buicks, because Infiniti is built for performance driving, and Buick is not, end of story!! This new M looks like it will be BMW & MB worse nightmare!! Infiniti did an amazing job evolving this car!!

I don’t like it. I’m just not a big fan of the bar of soap design school which seems to be Japan’s answer to what luxury should look like. And if everything else on the car is a curve then how come the sides of the grill are straight?

I think this car looks like it was peice-mealed together. Taking design cues from several other Nissan/Infiniti products. I have always liked / respected the Infinitis and like them better than Acura as of late but i will stick to my German friends.

Also, NMOFGM – A Nissan Maxima is nicer and faster and better looking than a LaCrosse. Fcuk Buick unless you are over 50 or play on the tour and are given them for free (T-Woods).

LOVE this car. It obviously has some resemblance to other Nissan products, i think that would be a given so I still dont know why everyone is whining saying it looks like this, looks like that..every BMW class has resemblance, that’s kind of the point car companies have when they have design themes, duh. So basically what I’m saying is they nailed the styling in my opinion.

I have heard a couple different things concerning the engine so I agree with others saying I bet thing will have the FX50’s engine and not the QX56’s. The 50 seems like it would be the obvious choice since it obviously has no problem motivating the FX and it’s incredible performance.

They’re probably going to slap their 3.7L VQ in it. Seems that 3.7L engine goes into everything they make these days. A couple of years ago, it was the 3.5, now it’s the 3.7. It has good potential, though, and a pretty smooth torque curve, so it should serve this car well.

Don’t you lemmings see what NMOFGM is doing? He’s baiting the weak minded into bashing on GM products. Probably some 1115 remnant.

Anyway, I’m not sure that Buick has anything that would directly compete with this car and I’m not sure that is their intent. The Infinity M has been a knock out since the first model. This loooks like a good progression for the car. But I fear a touch of what happened to Acura could be happening to Inifinity. Odd design themes, such as their latest jutting-forward grill design, seemingly for the sake of creating a niche for themselves. The oringinal G35 was a great success and I will once again, as with other cars, relate that to having an eye-catching yet uncluttered design with continuity from front to back.

Buick Lacrosse will prove that Infiniti nissan clones are overrated junk just like all japcrap before it. You want real luxury backed with quality and the best relibilability and dependibility in the business, then Buick is your brand.

You want a cheap POS japcrap knockoff wannabe that will torcher you with repair bills and be ready for the scrapyard by the time the warranty runs out? You want to be laughed at by your neighbors and friends for being an embarrasment to your Country, have your car keyed because you are an ignorant, unAmerican fock, This article is about your car.
