"Why pick a datsun over a 5 Series? Same mentality as buying jeans with holes already in them."

I guess it's the same mentality as accepting a recommendation from a janitor as opposed to someone who owns 2K cars. An ignorant who act like a genius is a loud ignorant.

Atourya, I disagree about Lexus. I personally think of Lexus as a refined Cadillac of old but with international/euro-inspired styling - basically a very very comfortable vehicle with a lot of gizmos in a package that suggests a hint of German heritage. Benz-like but with even less performance - but a much cushier road cruiser.

I associate Infiniti with BMW-reputed performance but with a different take on style - not necessarily regional. Yes, a Lexus is more refined in a smooth way, but an Infiniti kicks butt in a performance way. Infiniti's major drawback is that, for the money it does not offer more than it's established competitors but it also does not have the brand panache or dealership experience. I also have to admit - from Day One I thought the sound of the name "Infiniti" was lame and contrived. Same with the Acura name.

Ricardo, I agree with what you're saying, but I think Lexus is a much more refined car than its infinity counterpart. Everyone made fun of lexus for copying Benzes on their early designs... but it was genius. With a great marketing plan, we now associate a lexus to be more close to its German counterparts than its Japanese one.

I think its a nice car, but nothing to get overly excited about. The car is nicely executed, but lacks a certain unexplainable "WOW!" factor. The updates are appropriate and help make this car a little more desirable. This would probably not be my first choice if I was shopping for a car in this class. It is way better looking than the first generation stop gap measure M model that Infiniti shipped over here to the U.S.

I agree with Lucklaster. The style of the M45 was outdated when it came out. In my opinion, Nissan / Infiniti has become way too conservative with its designs. It hasn't much pushed the envelope since the Murano, FX, or G35 coupe.

I agree with Obhatti. I like this car until I see the price.

Somehow Lexus cranked their prices and made it stick, but Infiniti has not had such luck. Not too many people are willing to part with much more than 40k for an Infiniti for whatever reason - although they are superior vehicles to their Lexus counterparts.

The bottom part of the front bumper looks WAY better. More cohesive with the rest of the design. Besides that the shape is just a tad bland. I think this refresh will last Infiniti about 3 years before they need a whole new design.

I sat in this car at NYIAS, and it was very comfortable. The layout struck me as more visual than functional, though. It reminds me of the 2008 CTS, though I found the CTS to be very functional and much better laid out in comparison.

Honestly, while it's not a bad car, I would be going straight to BMW at this price point. I wouldn't even look Infiniti's way. Or I'd go over to Cadillac once the CTS-V arrives.

I think it looks great but I wonder why I dont see more of them on the road.... then I look at the price tag..... I think it's overpriced b/c Infiniti would like to compete with Audi/BMW but really can't.... if this was 5K less, I think it would sell better

can't wait till infiniti comes to europe in 2008. however the will need diesels (i hate them) to make any market impact or smaller petrol engines.
+ mainland europeans are not as open to new brands as the british isles, lexus has not been as successful in mainland europe and for this brand it may takea long time.

1115: how do you know i can't afford a BMW? Truth be told, i can't (yet) afford a 760i, but an X5 is within reach, but i'd rather retire without eating cat food (sorry I'm not like you with mommy and daddy's zykklon B profits as an inheritance)

I have AC/heat, all that stuff in my exuirban house, and I use them. It get's hot as a fool here. In Southern cali, there are these great things called Thomas Guides.
If you like "Nav," that's fine. I'm actually not against it. I would not mind having it if it were thrown in for no cost, but I'm not paying dealer markup.

daihatsus (at least in australia) were decent, but there's a reason they left the U.S. market. I wou'd even take an ACCORD over a daihatsu!

Best "Jap" (sic) cars are probably either Nissans (Incl. datsuns) or Subarus -- although I drove the new Tundra (for work) Friday and i was impressed, which didn't match my expectations

Tempos, I understand, are supposed to be crep, but mine, even though I let in run out of oil twice, was the first car I ever sold.

Mazda5 is a nice little car, but not realistic for my family. I'm almost certainly going Lambda

That's a jackjimturkey (all lowercase) post!

Let me do a JackJimTurkey post :
Its a nice car but Infiniti's are nothing but Datsuns. I can afford navigation but I would rather use a map while driving. Do you work for Garmin? I dont use a/c or heat in my house I use fans. Who needs comfort?
I cant afford a BMW and havent actually driven one but I think they are the best cars and not overpriced.
Your jap car is an Accord. The best jap cars were daihatsu. Ford Tempos, Mazda 5's and GM Lamnda's can fly

Where did my post go?

do-over

1115; i'll admit that the diamante, for whatever reason, wasn't a sales winner. The 929 was a nice enough car; the Millenia aimed really high, but just didn't work.

It was like a lot of the GM products early this decade: a great car, but without much style. That's ironic, because mazdas today have plenty of style.

But, it was NOT a 626. In retrospect, maybe mazda should have launced a luxury division, but then they would've had to either come out with another "luxury" model, or just rebadged the 626 (and maybe the Navajo/Explorer)

Anyway, the fact that the TL is a gussied up accord, is a valid point to stress. Now, someone said the NSX was essentially an accord, and while they kmight have had the same taillights or something, that comparison just doesn't make sense.

I've driven just about every car I've commented on.

what "lesser vehicles" have I praised?

I like teh acadia more for some reason, but i'll probably get an outlook, just to make up for the saturn i should've bought instead of my honda. But I might get a CX-9; the Mazda5 is cute enough, but realistically, if I'm going to carry kids and cargo, it's going to cost me some coin.

maximus: datsun's what i choose to call Nissan's faux-luxury division when I'm not on the clock.
