I never said the base A6 was only available in AWD. I only said the 3.0T and 4.2 were. The base A6 is the 3.2, then the 3.0T is the next version up, then the 4.2. And I am referring to the US versions. Currently the only version of the A6 that really competes against the new M is the A6 3.0T (the supercharged version). No one compares the A6 3.2 to anything because its only purpose is to create a cheaper version of the car to generate more sales. And just like the e60 550i, the A6 4.2 is outdated and pointless because of the cheaper forced induction version of the same car.

BMW and Mercedes better keep a close eye on their rearview mirrors. The new m series undercuts it’s. Rivals by a good $8000 and has a comparable driving experience with reliability. If the new car is as much better over the last generation as the new g series was after its first revamp everyone in this price market is in for a real treat. Fast fun reliable luxury at a fair price. Not to mention u spend more time in your new car than a service loaner, can’t say the same for the German competition. And the American cars. Are getting better but they compare closer to the Hyundai Genesis than they do to the Japan or German cars. The cts-v may be fast but driving the m, 5 series, and e class is a treat compared to the less refined drive of the American competition

you are wrong, base A6 is fwd which is based on modified vw fwd platform. Also A8 is offered as fwd in europe, while sold as awd only in US due to flagship image

You know, from these angles the car doesn’t look too bad. I guess the hood design seems to work best with their sedans than their SUVs. So is the M their flagship model now? As in the competitor to the Lexus LS?

Very nice car, but I’m not sure if I prefer it over the new 5 Series. Infiniti did a great job on the interior (the wood looks really expensive), but the exterior is a little odd.

The A6 3.0T is only available in AWD. Since this is the car that competes with the M37, I’m assuming it is the one you were refering to. The A6 4.2 is only available in AWD too. If you were refering to other lower end Audi models, then I don’t know why you brought it up, because the FWD versions of the A4, TT, and A3 have NOTHING to do with this article. I love both brands btw, so don’t even go there…

If it’s not offering a manual trans. then I guess BMW still owns the comparitively small number of people who prefer manuals with their mid-size cars.

The interior of this car is better than the 5 series, the new E Class, or even the A6. I even slightly prefer it more than the Jag XF. I know, I sat in one at the Tokyo Motor Show.

The new Nissan Maxima/Infinity M has this new “wavy” side profile that I don’t like, it doesn’t flow nicelly and reminds me of the 09 Hyundai Elantra. Looks cheap to me. The previous generation looked a lot better

RWD with optional AWD is the way to do it. FWD with optional AWD is NOT the way to do it. Nobody should be “forced” into choosing the added weight, complexity, and cost (both upfront and maintenance) of AWD merely because they wish to avoid torque-steer. (Oh, and did I mention that you never have equal weight distribution with AWD?) Rather, AWD should be an option when its needed for harsh climates.

In other words, Infinity is doing things right. Audi is doing things wrong. But most of you, being the dopes that you are, will criticize Infinity while singing the praises of Audi.

I guess you don’t know that reviews vote the m37/56 praise them for being better than the direct competition from bmw/mercedes/lexus. Not to mention it is the most reliable out of all the cars in the segment. The real garbage is the bmw/mercedes, who just got a redo, and still look like crap! At least this car try’s to sell itself by adding looks of luxury instead of just counting on the companies name to sell it!
If I were in the market for this kind of sedan, this is surely the only thing I would really look at!
