Nissan ’s Infiniti luxury brand has been without a true range-topper since the Q45 ended production in 2006, but the Japanese automaker doesn’t have any plans to rush a BMW 7-Series competitor back to the market.
Although Infiniti has yet to officially close the door on a new-age Q45, the luxury brand has no immediately plans to introduce a new model to compete with the likes of the BMW 7-Seires, Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Lexus LS.
“I would like an iconic product,” Toru Saito, vice president of the global Infiniti business unit, said, “but the No. 1 challenge is the environment and efficiency.”
While the decision to revive the Q hangs in the balance, Infiniti will rely on the all-new 2011 M to carry the brand’s premium torch. The M has stood as Infiniti’s top offering since the demise of the Q and is now approaching the same overall size as the former top offering. However, if demand proves strong for top-level M models, Infiniti could speed development of a new flagship model.
