Infiniti reveals all-new FX 35

Infiniti has released the goods on its V6-powered FX crossover vehicle, and it won’t be the FX 37 as previously speculated. Instead, Infiniti will soldier on with the FX 35, complimenting the V8-powered FX 50. That means that the FX 35 will use the same 3.5L V6 found under the hood of the G35.

But in FX guise, the VQ35HR powerplant will make slightly less power than the sedan — 303 instead of the sedan 306 horsepower. The FX 35 will use a new seven-speed automatic transmission that features manual shift mode, Adaptive Shift Control and Downshift Rev Matching. Solid magnesium paddle shifters will be optional.

As with the previous model, the new FX 35 will be available in two and all-wheel drive, which Infiniti calls ATTESA E-TS — short for Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All Electronic Torque Split.

The FX 35 should also retain its sporty nature, thanks to a fully independent sports-tuned suspension and a near perfect 52/48 weight distribution.

Look for the all-new FX 35 to roll into dealer showrooms this June.

  3. since the new FX is so FUGLY, the least they could do is put the 3.7. points for the magnesium shifter, though. and for Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All Electronic Torque Split - the biggest abbreviation in the industry.

  8. I did not like the current/previous model and this one did not fall far from the fugly tree in my book. Interior is nice. I do like sister EX a lot.

  9. Yeah, the EX looks very good. They didn’t mention the around view monitor on the fx. I thought all the new models would get it.

  10. I don’t understand how Infiniti plans to distinguish this base FX from the EX35.. it may be a little bigger, but it shares the same platform and engine. So how do they justify the higher price? Sure, the power/performance difference between a FX35 and FX37 would be negligable.. but the bigger number would have done a lot for image when sitting on the lot next to the EX.

  11. zoomster, to answer your question - they don’t justify anything. Most of people on the site like FX and I don’t. Since I don’t like FX I ain’t byun’ it. However I like EX and that’s an opportunity for Nissan to sell. it is the same car with different shell/body. The profit from sale justifies the cost of development of 2 bodies. The higher price is Nissan’s prediction that more people will like FX then dislike it.
To the consumer the cost of ownership is the same. It is Infinity - their cars are leased not sold. When car is leased the payment is calculated based on difference between current cost and cost in the future. It is presumed that more expensive car will cost more in the future as well. Consumer is borrowing the difference and the difference may be the same or near the same, therefore cost of the lease are either identical or very close to each other. I may lease EX and you FX, but our monthly outlays should be quite similar.

  17. badass - I agree that most little women end up driving huge SUVs, but not this one. The sightlines are so bad out of the back that they won’t touch it. I had an ‘05, and my 5′4″ wife refused to drive it. She also thought it was too loud, and the dash was too technical (and why did I marry her again?).

Otherwise, I was really hoping that the stupid gill by the front wheel was for the V8 version, and the 6 would come out cleaner. No such luck…

  18. They took a nice design (both interior and exterior) and ruined it! I much prefer the older (original) generation. This looks too cheezy. Interior is a huge dissapointment - both in this car and G35.

  19. Agreed, this thing is Heinous….interior is too clustered, and the exterior does not flow with those god awful headlamps…they butchered this thing.

  20. Do we really need this, with all the crossover SUV’s already out there.

  21. It seems that Nissan/Infiniti’s has a distinct strategy for its 2nd-generation designs (**** 2.0, if you will) including the G coupe/sedan, this FX, Altima, Murano, and apparently the upcoming Z.. at first, they look very similar to the outgoing models, but each has acquired additional bodywork creasing/sculpting/detailing that IMO subtly detracts from instead of enhancing the overall shape. I’m hopeful that more Nissiniti future products will start breaking the mold again (and become more distinct from each other).. subtle reworking of the current Sentra and Versa, for example, will definitely not be enough.

  22. (MIKE) You maybe right. The FX may be too small for them. I guess they’ll stick to their; Suburban’s, Escalade ESV’s & Navigator’s.
Remember the good ol’ days when every jealious woman & angry lesbian’s battle cry was………”only men with small dicks drive high performance cars”.

Well..I wonder what women who drive these behemoth SUV’s are thying to compensate for?!

  34. zoomzoomr nailed it. These news Nissan designs are the same old same old with more creases and parts that just make them uglier than the previous generation. Take a look at the side shot on the FX35. no thanks, and I was a fan of the first one.
