All of you girls need to calm down, pop open a nice alcoholic beverage and start fingering yourselves to the smooth sounds of (now dead) Barry White. Enough already!

You picked gnats out of pepper for that last post. The G5 and Cobalt out of production? The Murano and FX are style COMPLETELY different just like the ES/Camry whereas the Ford GM counterparts have the SAME interior but the front and back lights and wheels may be different. Only the Mark Z is different bc at the interior. Its not the same. The armada QX are two trucks whereas the GM Ford and Chrysler trucks are all the same. I'll excuse the Lamdas bc they attempted to make them look different but 4 divisions have one. The domestics abuse it more.

Lastly If you like the domestics then fine BUY THEM. When I look for a car Im doing my research and I'm going for the cars that have the highest resale and reliability and when I went shopping last year its was coming up Japanese( just like the last 15 years). I would love it if the Americans were on top but they are not and its their own fault !
Resale has nothing to do with build quality and reliability ? Are you kidding me ?

Hyundai stood by there products when they FIRST came out. Maybe the Excel was a POS but they didn't have the resources that the Americans did. Yet they still stood behind their product. The Americans sold shit and didn't back their product up. Now they are backed into a corner and forced to give a warranty bc their track record has shown that their product wasn't reliable
The Japanese can offer a higher warranty but they dont have to bc their product holds up Thats a positive

tripleonefive:

The Taurus/Montego do look the same, but the FX/Murano are the same thing too!! The Armada/QX are another example. Stop talking about things like the Sunbird which are OUT OF PRODUCTION. Because if you want to talk about things that are out of production, lets look at the last generation Camry/ES330 which look even more alike than the current ones if thats even possible. The fact is, don't accuse domestics of rebadging because they don't do it any more or any less than the almighty imports do it! You are being hypocritical by pointing out cars the domestics rebadged (some of your example are even older than I am) and then completely ignoring the fact that your beloved imports DO the SAME thing! It's part of the business, it's cost cutting.

I agree mostly on the Hyundai part, especially about the fact that they are followng in Japans footsteps but why are you dismissing the fact that the domestics are offering great warranties 'because they have to'? Why do you think Hyundai started offering that warranty? To prove to America that they don't build pieces of shit like the Excel anymore!! The fact that Japan doesn't have better warranties should be a negative, not a positive.

tripleonefive - i asked you a simple question..."What car do you drive" and you used it to try and spit out more anti-domestic rants. What, Toyota never renamed their cars? Oh, I think I'm gonna buy a Toyota Crown, oh I mean a Camry, oh I..don't know what its called anymore.

AMG
You are reaching. Which Honda and Acura in the US have the same interior and/ or bodies? The 07 Accord and TL different engines and completely different bodies. Do the Murano and FX share the same sheet metal or interior? The Equinox and the Torrent do. The Cobalt Cavalier Sunbird G5 do. Have you been in any of them?.. The ES has the same engine as the Camry but there are completely different in style unlike the Milan/ Fusion or Montego/500 which share the same interior and everything. They have just change the lights in the front and back. The MKZ is different "enough" bc at least the interior is different.
I like the Koreans because they remind me of the Japanese 20 years ago. They are going after the consumer who wants value and quality . I think every model they made they has gotten better looking and they offer a great warranty on their products and stand behind them. GM and Chrysler just started that within the last two years bc they have to
I think that the designs are good and I noticed that households usually have more than one Hyundai/Kia.
In another thread I said the auto pecking order is the Germans the Japs and the Domestics. I think the Koreans are with the domestics only bc of their short history and quality has to be proven. Unlike many of you Im not saying that is fact bc I dont have the resale and reliability to back that up.
I would buy the Korean over Americant. They are creeping up and should be a force in the industry

I drive an Chevy Celebrity oh wait a Lumina oh wait a Malibu. Great cars that held their value lol
Look at comparable American vs Japanese models (which is what consumers do) and see which ones have higher resale
Also check which cars have the highest resale and what car company tied with itself to come out on top in 07 in resale
You need to do the research not me

tripleonefive - read what AMGoff wrote. Read his examples. They are right on point - then provide some of your own examples!! Why is Korea better (what Kia gives you a boner?). Germany I like also, BMW, Benz, and Audi EASILY beat out the Japanese faux-luxury divisions.

I say the things I say because I want people to think objectively. You don't say anything of substance in your responses - just that Japan is awesome and Detroit sucks. WHY IS THAT? Because someone told you so? Because everyone else is buying Toys and Hondas so they must be awesome? Detroit, especially GM, are all making competitive cars right now. You accuse the domestics of badge jobs when Toyota is doing the same with Camry-->ES330, you point out some kelly blue book RESALE value bullshit and claim it shows that Japan makes quality cars..........

you fucking people... how come Detroit is the only one ever blamed for "badge engineering." Yeah... Ford and Chrysler do it blatantly... but GM is atleast trying to start changing up the sheetmetal for vehicles on shared platforms. The Lucerne and the DTS are great examples... same platform yet the bodies and the interiors are entirely different, and ever engine options are different as well. But no one likes to admit when others do it. How come some Toyotas and Lexus' look like the same bodies with different badges. Oh... and how about some Hondas and Acuraaaaas? Gee.. they can't even switch the acuras around to rwd - same bodies, same interior layouts. Nissan is guilty of it too... the Murano and the FX.. the armada and the QX or whatever it's called.... the Z and the G? But it's okay when they all do it!

As for this particular article.... how is this option in question if I just saw a commercial for this sometime in the past week?

I did find it weird that the G35 sedan was the only car in that line to have AWD. I am just a bit curious if an AWD G37 will nip at the GT-Rs sells any. Who is going to dump $70K when they can get and AWD G37 for maybe $40K then drop $10K in mods to make a car that is just about as hot or hotter.

Maybe Nissan won't go for it simply because of that. Still It sounds like a cool idea.

Jordan:

- I am pissed about the G5, but that is also based on OLD product (the cobalt came out in 2003 and the G5 badgejob was planned before GM started turning itself around). Also, the G5 (along with the Pontiac Wave-a rebadged Aveo-are mostly for the Canadian market).
- All the minivans you mentioned are DEAD. GM, along with Ford, no longer make minivans.
- I already talked about the Equinox/Torrent. They are old, and the new ones will be different. Also, GM admitted that giving Pontiac the Torrent SUV was a mistake. The next-gen "torrent" will be a GMC as part of the Pontiac-Buick-GMC division and GMC being the one with the trucks.
- The new Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade are VERY different. Big improvement over the last gen Chevy/GMC trucks that looked almost identical. The Avalanche and Escalade EXT are also completely different. GM's trucks are as different as Toy's Land Cruiser/GX470... can't do much more to set them apart.
- New Silverado/Sierra are very different in exterior design. Also, the GMC is tougher and more luxuries. The Silverado is just the mainstream truck. Again, improvement over last gen. I would take a Sierra over a silverado anyday though, cuz the sierra looks much better.

For anyone else like Jordan that wants to point out examples of GM badge jobs, give examples where both cars were introduced after 2005/2006 model year. I think that 2005 is the year that GM really woke up to their problems and 2006 was the year they started fixing them.

Japan is on my list of places to visit and if I liked it than maybe I would live there. I dont like the idea of living in America if yourself and jack jim are representatives of who "Americans" are.
Sunshine: I sort of agree there is something about this G coupe that looks wrong i cant put my finger on it. I like the 4 door better this time which is the exact opposite of how I felt about the last models

Its too bad that Infiniti did not offer all wheel drive on the G35 coupe because I would have bought one since I was in the market for a new car. As for the redesigned G coupe, I think it is uglier and I therefore wouldn't even consider it when deciding on my next car in 2 years.

Commodore:

chevy cobalt/pontiac g5

chevy uplander/buick terazza/pontiac montana sv6

chevy equinox/pontiac torrent

chevy tahoe/gmc yukon and their extended counterparts

hell, chevy avalanche/cadillac escalade ext

even the new silverado and sierra are virtually identical, if you get the silverado with the upgraded interior package.

and you say gm doesn't do badge jobs anymore? the only difference between most of these vehicles are the damn grilles and the headlights and taillights. if that, in some cases (see the minivans).

the g37 and the altima coupe have completely different drivetrains, interiors, bodies, and feature sets. only gm's new lambda suvs even come close to matching how different the g37 and altima coupe are.

Anyone know the real HP and 0-60 numbers? Nissan/Infiniti is notorious for over stating their numbers. Looks good on paper, just curious how it will actually perform.

That is still OLD product jason52. The Isuzu had virtually no product anyway and no one bought the isuzu. I guarantee that the next gen Trailblazer/Envoy/Torrent/or whatever they call them will be completely different from each other. My problem with this car is that this brand new product that is just too close to each other and has too many similarities with a cheaper car. Kind of like the Cimarron and the Cavalier in the 80s. Fortunately GM doesn't do that any more.

CTS: I think the 460 is a crown.
The avalon is a stretched camry

and all those domestic badge-shifting jobs served the perpose of giving each division a piece of a certain platform (bad idea to give caddy a j-body) Not to hose the customer for an extra $10K

tripleonefive - your making no sense. How can you say that when one of your fellow import-humpers just pointed about that the "STS and the Lucerne are the same car". I disproved that (and you'd be an idiot to say that the STS and Lucerne are the same) so get the fuck out of the 70s when GM did badgejobs and stop being so biased. And if you like Japan so much, go live there (I really hope you're not an American)

How is this the Altima Coupe when the G35 coupe came out first. The G is rear drive and the Altima is front. They look alike bc they probably had the same designer. The only company who makes the same cars are the domestics. They just change the front and back lights. At least the Japanese make the body style and engines different
