Lastly If you like the domestics then fine BUY THEM. When I look for a car Im doing my research and I’m going for the cars that have the highest resale and reliability and when I went shopping last year its was coming up Japanese( just like the last 15 years). I would love it if the Americans were on top but they are not and its their own fault !
Resale has nothing to do with build quality and reliability ? Are you kidding me ?

Hyundai stood by there products when they FIRST came out. Maybe the Excel was a POS but they didn’t have the resources that the Americans did. Yet they still stood behind their product. The Americans sold **** and didn’t back their product up. Now they are backed into a corner and forced to give a warranty bc their track record has shown that their product wasn’t reliable

The Taurus/Montego do look the same, but the FX/Murano are the same thing too!! The Armada/QX are another example. Stop talking about things like the Sunbird which are OUT OF PRODUCTION. Because if you want to talk about things that are out of production, lets look at the last generation Camry/ES330 which look even more alike than the current ones if thats even possible. The fact is, don’t accuse domestics of rebadging because they don’t do it any more or any less than the almighty imports do it! You are being hypocritical by pointing out cars the domestics rebadged (some of your example are even older than I am) and then completely ignoring the fact that your beloved imports DO the SAME thing! It’s part of the business, it’s cost cutting.

I agree mostly on the Hyundai part, especially about the fact that they are followng in Japans footsteps but why are you dismissing the fact that the domestics are offering great warranties ‘because they have to’? Why do you think Hyundai started offering that warranty? To prove to America that they don’t build pieces of **** like the Excel anymore!! The fact that Japan doesn’t have better warranties should be a negative, not a positive.

I say the things I say because I want people to think objectively. You don’t say anything of substance in your responses – just that Japan is awesome and Detroit sucks. WHY IS THAT? Because someone told you so? Because everyone else is buying Toys and Hondas so they must be awesome? Detroit, especially GM, are all making competitive cars right now. You accuse the domestics of badge jobs when Toyota is doing the same with Camry–>ES330, you point out some kelly blue book RESALE value bull**** and claim it shows that Japan makes quality cars……….

Maybe Nissan won’t go for it simply because of that. Still It sounds like a cool idea.

- I am pissed about the G5, but that is also based on OLD product (the cobalt came out in 2003 and the G5 badgejob was planned before GM started turning itself around). Also, the G5 (along with the Pontiac Wave-a rebadged Aveo-are mostly for the Canadian market).
- All the minivans you mentioned are DEAD. GM, along with Ford, no longer make minivans.
- I already talked about the Equinox/Torrent. They are old, and the new ones will be different. Also, GM admitted that giving Pontiac the Torrent SUV was a mistake. The next-gen “torrent” will be a GMC as part of the Pontiac-Buick-GMC division and GMC being the one with the trucks.
- The new Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade are VERY different. Big improvement over the last gen Chevy/GMC trucks that looked almost identical. The Avalanche and Escalade EXT are also completely different. GM’s trucks are as different as Toy’s Land Cruiser/GX470… can’t do much more to set them apart.
- New Silverado/Sierra are very different in exterior design. Also, the GMC is tougher and more luxuries. The Silverado is just the mainstream truck. Again, improvement over last gen. I would take a Sierra over a silverado anyday though, cuz the sierra looks much better.

For anyone else like Jordan that wants to point out examples of GM badge jobs, give examples where both cars were introduced after 2005/2006 model year. I think that 2005 is the year that GM really woke up to their problems and 2006 was the year they started fixing them.

even the new silverado and sierra are virtually identical, if you get the silverado with the upgraded interior package.

and you say gm doesn’t do badge jobs anymore? the only difference between most of these vehicles are the damn grilles and the headlights and taillights. if that, in some cases (see the minivans).

the g37 and the altima coupe have completely different drivetrains, interiors, bodies, and feature sets. only gm’s new lambda suvs even come close to matching how different the g37 and altima coupe are.

and all those domestic badge-shifting jobs served the perpose of giving each division a piece of a certain platform (bad idea to give caddy a j-body) Not to hose the customer for an extra $10K
