General Motors has announced that several current Pontiac, Saturn and Chevrolet vehicles will be available with a fully integrated dealer-installed Apple iPod connection.
GM’s Personal Audio Link iPod adapter is available for the Chevrolet HHR and Cobalt, the Pontiac G5 and Solstice and the Saturn Sky from dealerships. The system integrates the iPod into the vehicle’s head unit, which means that users will be able to select songs or playlists via the head unit or steering wheel radio controls while keeping the iPod out of sight.
The system runs $159 in the United States, plus installation, and is available immediately at all dealerships. GM expects to offer the system on more models by the end of the year, making it one of the few automakers to offer a fully integrated system on such a wide range of vehicles.

Big ****ing deal. They should have saved themselves the R&D they pissed away on that nugget and focused on overall design instead.

I hate that this is iPod only connectivity. Such a marketing buyout scam, oh look, to have an easily accessed mp3 list in your car, you MUST have an iPod!!! BULL****. I don’t have an iPod, but I do have an easily comparable and in my opinion, far better, 30G Creative Zen Vision M. Now many cars have mp3 jacks that simply plug into your headphone slot, which works–yes you guessed it, with every single portable music device!!! But GM here, always the tricky ****s in this business, of course made its jacks iPod only, so as to persuade the buying populace just a LITTLE bit more, as if the influence wasn’t enough there already, to further Apple’s monopoly on the mp3 market! GREAT!!

It’s not iPod only, nimrod, there’s still a 3.5mm aux in in nearly everything GM sells. Get your facts straight. They’re just offering this as an added convienience to iPod owners who want to retain steering wheel controls, etc. So if you’re a geek, you pay $160, if not, you just use the aux in and buy the $10 cable.

Great responses…
Deanster:
Believe it or not, small things like this can help save a company. You’re just using the tired argument: “Why are they doing _____ when they should be putting all of their money into _____?” The company can’t just magically focus on only one aspect of the business.
mujician:
This is old news. GM has been offering these adapters since early last year. Ford is just getting to it now.
LamborghiniZ:
I’ll never understand why good product throws people over the edge. There’s a universal jack on nearly every radio that GM sells. So, yeah! Those damn scam artists at GM. What the hell were they thinking trying to make product that people want!?

Get Real you really need to get real GM is no longer heading that way. you really don’t know your ****. Do you hate GM because your following the same ****ty path your father is taking? Are your parents siblings?
Lambo, same gose for you with the ipod. Two of my kids have the 30gb and the oldest has a 60gb and i have tryed them and they seem really usefull and it is hard to convince me into thinking something is usefull.
I don’t know what makes you so stupid, but it really works!

Hopefully they get full conectivity on the Holden Commodore, it’s just got a 3.5mm connector at the momment.
I’ve got an aftermarket setup with an Alpine headunit and I just leave my ipod connected to it permently (it’s quite old now, old monochrome one 20gb)and it’s good to be able to see track information etc (when you have it on shuffle and have no idea what the hell you’re listening to)

How the **** would I know if all GM cars have a universal mp3 jack?? Why would I EVER be in a GM car long enough to find little tads of “”"information”"” like that?? Good lord I would never own a GM model so thats the kind of bull**** side note info i would never know, however when a story comes out about APPLE **** only, I assume thats what they mean. thats just how it is, but argue with me about it, i know you’ll continue to.

Just about every new car has one ya dum ass, And who even cares if you hate or like Apple, it just meens more good working stuff for us like a GM car. At least you don’t have to repair a GM car ever weekend like you have to with a Lamborghini. Ha and even if i had the money for a ****ing Lambo i sure as hell wouldn’t buy one. I could afford a new Cadillac CTS-V LS6 and have a very nice 1969 Camaro Z28 302 instead. I don’t know what your problem is, but I’ll bet it’s hard to pronounce.

the Ipod connectivity is cool the best way to personalise your car is to be able to carry your music around in your car instead of having to mess around with CD’s, tapes or the crap music on the radio.

Fords Sync will be “factory installed” and will operate much, much more than an Ipod only device. Most of these devices only operate the “next song” feature from the steering wheel control whereas the Microsoft Sync option will voice operate and display all device functions on the factory stereo. This kind of device is what we need in all cars, not a wired, plug in link thats dealer installed…good god.

Gosh Burmanesski, you’re reference to Lamborghini’s really hit home! It hurts bad! Not to mention how you explaining so eloquently and so full of detail how Lamborghini’s “break down more” than GM’s have turned me away from thrilling, exotic super cars and onto discounted, sub-par quality domestic trash! Also, forgot to point out that you are, yes indeed you are, comparing a small Italian supercar manufacturer (owned by VW I know) to the world’s second largest car manufacturer! THAT’S A SENSIBLE COMPARISON!

I agree fully with him, why the **** would anyone know that GM offers a 3.5 mm jack? And the Lamborghini/GM comparison is like comparing caviar to nuggets of goat****.

BTW, my old iPod Mini died, and they gave me a credit. I picked up a Sansa e260 (4 gig). Forget it. Can’t make playlists, ****ing confusing interface, ****ty scrollwheel. I tried out the Samsung T9, which is a lot better, but the Nano is better than both combined.

^ iPods are the best for a reason they are the easiest to use and also very intuitive. i had a Sony NW-A300 which was just crap the software was too hard to use and had several problems and battery life was just poor. I upgraded to a samsung YP-K5 which was a cool little thing but the software was very complicated.

My Saturn Aura has an aux jack and it gives me steering wheel audio controls over EVERY MP3 player I plug into it, not just iPods.
Not like it matters though, it has a 6 disc MP3 CD player which is better than having something plugged into my dash.
