Is one of these the McLaren supercar of tomorrow?

McLaren has picked the winners of a student design competition held in association with the prestigious Istituto Europeo di Design. The project involved a total of 39 students subdivided in 14 groups which then completed their work as a team, each producing a 1:4 scale model. Three models were awarded first, second and third prizes. In third, was ‘MP11′ a very aggressive-looking car that was true to the engineering package in the brief. The runner-up, ‘Manta’, took a strikingly different direction to any other. ‘M Eleven B’ (pictured) took overall honours with first place, representing the best interpretation of a future McLaren road car. I’m just glad we finally have more supercar news in leftlanenews. All this talk about UAW and economic strategizing by car companies is interesting, but this is *left lane* news, and I really do like news about fast cars.

Hopeefully they put the twin turbo AMG V12 in there.

The M eleven B is gorgeous, I guess that’s because it has a striking resemblence to the current Zonda F, similar layout and cabin design, and yes stu they should definetly put a twin-turbo AMG V-12. I’m thinking the 7.3 liter that in the Zonda + the twin turbo setup, making 900bhp would do nicely.

This car looks like the child of a Pagani Zonda and Ferrari Enzo and the grand child of a Mclaren F1. Still nice though. Could be better with the driver seat in the middle like the original

the engines you guys spoke about is nowhere near the performance of the Veyron…

The Veyron is also a W16 engine.

And the Veyron needs more HP since its a fat pig in terms of weight – the Zonda is lightweight and all Carbon fiber – so these leaner cars dont need 1001 bhp to keep up…

On a different note, have you guys noticed that the best designs and design cues these days seem to all be found in these “student design” contests etc.? I’d say American carmakers definitely have a future if they can lure in these super-creative and talented “kids” while using more of a bottom-up management approach by actually LISTENING to them…

AuDub: it’s because these engines also don’t need 10 radiators. And, the McLaren will not melt the paint off the other vehicles around it.

Why not????

Old Mclaren F1 had a 625-bhp 6-LTR naturally aspirated engine capable of doing 241 mph

The buggati Veyron has a 8-LTR with 950-BHP quad turbo engine capable of 250 mph.

Mercedes AMG has a 6-LTR quad turbo engine capable of 850 bhp and 850ft of torq shown in the Chrysler ME4/12. That fitted to the Mclaren should easily achive 255-260bhp.

Amazing how it makes the original F1 look fussy. Kind of like the Lancia Stratos and the Fenomenon. Not a bad thing, just interesting.

Hehe, little faith in the parent company, AuDub? :-P Well you can only go so far with the development of an engine, without turning it into a ridiculous, noisy oven.
