2007 Saab Aero-X (Sonett) Concept uncovered

02/24/2006, 9:10 AM

By admin

Updated from Feb 20: We’ve obtained some news press photos of Saab’s 2007 Aero-X Concept, which leaked on the Internet earlier this week. The concept has been creating quite a buzz online, with a strong reaction from Saab fans around the world. Overall, most onlookers have been impressed with the car, which represents Saab’s most aggressive and groundbreaking design to date. We feel this concept is proof GM design is back on the right track. According to various published reports, the car will use a BioPower engine producing 400 horsepower. It looks a lot like the Saturn curve if you ask me.

Interesting design, sort of, but I’m not sure how unique the ‘language’ is, and how it might fit with SAAB’s actual niche, which is mainly 5-door hatch/wagonish vehicles.

I’m not sure how that is attractive. There are better looking designs on the market.

Looks like the bastard child of a Corvette and Saturn Sky. But even if it is true…is anyone ever going to find a Saab sexy?

It’s a million times better looking than the ****ty Camaro and Challenger concepts.

WRT the picture’s origins, I got it )and used it at Trollhattansaab.net) straight from the Geneva Auto Salon website. If you haven’t got it from there yourselves, then why post LLN watermarks on it?

Wow! This looks pretty awesome…it’d be great for Saab to come out with something like this!

This looks like they took the saab grille and stuck it on one of the stupid concepts GM is always cranking out – no attention to details which make the saabs so attractive. When I say details I’m talking about the break lines in the surfaces, especially on the sides (obviously this is one rendering) – this picture is the same organic crap without details that we got with the chevy truck convertible – completely unfinished. It’s like the designers at GM are a bunch of 8th graders sanding they’re pinewood derby cars seeing how smooth they can make it. Why do we have to watch saab’s rich heritage destroyed by GM???? I thought the saddest thing was the new Bravado/saab suv, but this is worse.

I was talking to a friend of mine about cars the other day. I said something about Saab and can you guess what she (a 20 year old Carolla driver) said?

I kid you not: “What’s a Saab?”

Followed by: “What do they look like?” and “Who makes them?”

In my view Saab is a lost cause.

True, although the same could be said about Audi even til now – they have a ton of passat profits to promote the audi brand and plow into R&D which they’ve been doing with decent results. Same with Peugot in the US, or Renault – Saab may have had more visibility in the 80’s, but they have never been a staple, especiallly to people who don’t know cars.

Probably the best thing that could happen is that when GM folds, possibly a European maker will buy the Saab operations, or it will die with GM. On the bright side, either way – dead or sold off – GM can’t further whore the name out to rebadge Chevys. To GM’s credit, the 93 and the 95 were left to Saab to design, although this concept looks like it has the familiar “midas” touch of the GM designers – if I’m wrong and someone knows it was all the Saab team please correct me.

I know its a concept but… try getting out of that thing in the rain, you’ll ruin the leather!

I see more resemblence to the chrysler crossfire, especially in the front view (last picture)

Wow, a Swedish-branded Corvette. Is this going to use up still more Subaru chassis ? I always wondered what became of all those SVXs – voila, here it is reborn !

Too bad Saab dredged up that “Sonett” moniker. Visions of the 60’s and 70’s models of the same name, generate waves of nausea that just don’t seem to go away.

The General will never let it happen, at least not with those doors and 400 Hp.

I like it, but I don’t see it coming from Saab and not withthose doors.

I’d love a Aero Saab though. In europe Saab has a better brand name then over here though.

Very cool car. The flanks have a decided Aston Martin DB8 character too them. This will also expand SAAB’s appeal and bring people who wouldn’t otherwise be exposed into the showrooms – all a good thing. So long as they don’t lose their shirt on the vehicle, this can’t be anything but a good thing for SAAB.

The design has a little Saturn Curve (front fenders), a little Alfa, a little Bertone influenced, (thick roof profile), a little Lamborghini (no real C-pillar), a little Aston Martin in its curvaceousness.

Overall, I like it. My favorite part is the tail-light treatment which looks kind of blue. I’m not a fan of many-spoked wheels. (Bring back 3-spokes!) Sure, it doensn’t look like a Saab of today, but I wouldn’t mind if future Saabs looked like this.

this thing is pretty cool. it is a solid design and it looks great (side view especially) if it is priced reasonably its the just the thing that the european market needs

There is nothing SAAB to it, except for the logo.
Looks a freaking Pontiac. Ya right, GM is back on track. Gimme a break

Mmm… Let’s see…
- Corvette chassis (check the seat-to-wheels proportions)
- 2002 Audi A8 wheels
- “Upcoming Camaro”-esque face
- “Upcoming Mitsubishi”-ish tail
But the “No A-pillar” canopy is clean.
The rear rump is sexy (though outsized by the snout).
And the added window on the doorside is probably for ordering take-out (typically American).
Conclusion : (Sigh!) this only looks 15% like a Saab!
